Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Rine.
Hi Rebecca, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a certified life coach who oversees a nonprofit called Coach Dayton (coachdayton.org). I no longer charge for my 1:1 sessions because most people who truly need life coaching to help empower them don’t have the financial means to receive it. I have a day job in higher education, so I wanted to extend my life coaching services as an act of service to give back to my community. I’ve worked with people of all ages from college students to empty nesters to help them uncover their purpose and potential. I extend 4 free sessions to a client, and I set a limit because it helps us get to the client’s goals immediately, create an action plan, and keep growing until the client can take the tools and keep implementing them to keep thriving without needing me. I also lead workshops for businesses to help leaders gain self-awareness and lead with vulnerability, patience, and curiosity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life coaching is so rewarding to see clients gain clarity and direction, but that work can be draining as I pour so much of myself into their story. I’ve been challenged when I’ve met with clients who get in their own way or are facing such darkness they don’t know how to step out of it. Those are the clients that leave me feeling like I wish I could push a button and magically change their lives for them, but it doesn’t work that way. Life coaching isn’t a magic wand but rather a slow, steady, consistent practice where the client shows up for themselves day after day, taking steps toward good habits and noticing when they fall off track and why. It entails a self-awareness that is not easy or pretty–it’s taking time to sit with yourself and see all the things to understand why you feel stuck or unfulfilled.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been an educator and professional writer for several years and realized the materials I consistently wrote about revolved around helping others live their best lives. With this in mind, I felt drawn to becoming a life coach, so I became certified and have been helping clients implement tools they can use every day to help empower them to take control of their lives, set reasonable goals, examine their thoughts, and continually take action to achieve balance and depth in their lives, according to their values.
I am known for encouraging people to be absolutely the person they are. If we pretend to be someone we’re not to get external praise or to avoid judgment, there’s going to be an undercurrent of sadness or heaviness that pulls us under. Sometimes we assume we know who we are and what we want, but I take a lot of time to focus on discovering that again for clients. Self-awareness is the biggest muscle I nudge clients to grow because if they can understand how to tap into their inner-self in a way that doesn’t feel hokey or “woo-woo,” they can learn to grow and adapt to life as they age and life brings inevitable changes and obstacles. It’s not a one-and-done practice–it’s a constant checking in on ourselves by sitting in silence and letting us face discomfort that ultimately leads to freedom.
What sets me apart is I don’t charge for my services. I feel called to make others feel seen and for them to see their worth and purpose, and I don’t feel right about putting a price tag on that. We all need this. I’m also not on social media. I’m intentionally trying to make in-person connections rather than posting about what I do. I’d rather have slow, real growth and make differences in people’s lives instead of obsessing over likes and comments from people I’ll never meet.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am pretty strict about doing only in-person coaching sessions, as it brings a necessary human connection to the session that talking into a screen can’t achieve. So if you live in the Dayton, Ohio area, you can reach out to me at rebecca@coachdayton.org to see if I’m a good fit for you. I take only one client at a time, as I do have a separate career I balance with this that supports me financially. I’d love to collaborate with anyone who is serving their community in any way. I’m also available to offer workshops to organizations and businesses to help their employees grow their leadership skills.
