Hi Purnima, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The spotlight first found me on the school stage, where I reveled in the thrill of drama and dance performances. Yet, the idea of transforming this passion into a career remained dormant for years. It wasn’t until recently that an irresistible urge to bring stories to life on the big screen began to consume me. With courage in my heart, I embarked on an unforgettable journey, enrolling in an intensive acting course at the renowned New York Film Academy (NYFA) just last year. In the heart of the city that never sleeps, I found the courage to redefine myself as a dedicated actor.
I embraced change, diving into the world of talent agencies. And then, like a twist in the tale, the Heyman Talent Agency extended its hand, opening doors that once felt like distant dreams. All of a sudden, I found myself with the incredible chance to take part in the Miss India Ohio 2023 pageant. Thanks to my dedication and perseverance, I clinched the title. So, here I am, proudly holding the honor of being Miss India Ohio 2023.
The journey was truly incredible. I picked up so much along the way. I got roles in a couple of ads, and right now, I’m focusing on getting even better for a chance to act in movies. There’s a lot ahead of me. I truly think this is just the beginning of my career, and I’m excited to see all the amazing things that lie ahead in my life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey hasn’t been easy, and I understand that it won’t get any easier. But I believe the toughest trials in my career are still ahead of me. Right now, I’m at University of Cincinnati working on a master’s in aerospace engineering, which is quite different from my other interests. It’s tough to manage both things at once. Yet, I’m learning how to handle it all and giving my best to achieve my goals.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As I mentioned before, I’m an actress, and one thing I’m confident about is my ability to convey emotions effectively—something essential in my field. I take pride in embracing challenges to follow this path, no matter the hurdles. When I step into a character’s shoes, I fully embrace their persona. Their joy and sorrow become mine as if we’re kindred spirits. Empathy is a big part of who I am, and I think it’s what enables me to deeply connect with my characters. This quality sets me apart in my own unique way.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I owe a significant part of my journey to my sister and brother-in-law, who have been my unwavering anchors. They are the driving force behind my foray into the acting world. I owe them a heartfelt gratitude for making all of this possible. From the very beginning, they have been my foremost champions, holding an irreplaceable place in my heart. My sister, in particular, is my guiding light; she’s my inspiration, and I hold her in the highest regard. Without her, I feel incomplete.
During a pivotal moment of uncertainty about my career path, it was their suggestion that illuminated my way. They advised me to embark on an acting course at NYFA to gauge my true inclinations. This experience proved transformative, reshaping my perspective and igniting a deep-seated passion for acting.
