Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Nelson.
Hi Patrick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
We were just 5 friends that grew up in and around Canton, we’re all very much into nerd culture in one form or another, and you look around and see, Cleveland has shows and Akron has shows, and Columbus has shows, but there hadn’t been one in Canton in 15 years so we wanted to bring one home and try to bring the big city show feel without the big city show price tag
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s mostly been smooth. I think the biggest hurdles have been how crowded the space has become. It seems like there’s a convention within driving distance every weekend now, and Ohio is no exception.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I think what’s unique with us is that between the five of us we all bring something different to the table. We have a graphic artist, a web designer/ computer programmer, one of us manages a national shipping and logistics company, we have a guy that is the king of ferreting out new or unknown places in the culture and I have 20+ years of comic and collectables buying/selling and dealing and the contacts that go with it. It’s always seemed like if there’s an area one of us doesn’t excel at one or more of the rest of us do
What makes you happy?
One of the best and most unforeseen side effects of putting the show on has been seeing people come back year after year and telling us how much fun they have and how much they look forward to it. It’s been incredibly fulfilling
