Life & Work with Patrick Hutson of Blue Ash, Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Hutson.

Hi Patrick , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The band started when Patrick & Kyle met in high school in 2018, and made plans to hang out after school to jam. They immediately started learning songs to cover, and Patrick began to discover his talent as a songwriter. Feeling inspired, they began to recruit more people to jam with them. They found Randy, a fellow classmate. She killed it on the drums and instantly meshed with the guys. From there the basement band trio was formed. They began creating arrangements and writing original music. Over the years, members had come and gone, and a handful of shows had been played. Randy made the switch over to keys and then came our singer Veda. One of Kyle’s friends from college, who had just made the move to Cincy for grad school. She elevated the group to another level and their original music came to life with passion. Our most recent addition is our new drummer Ian. He has brought a powerful energy and presence to the band as he continues to impress us with his drumming chops. The group of five has been playing together since the Summer of ‘23, and is continuing to write new songs and play shows.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been relatively a smooth road. Like many bands members come and go and at times life gets in the way. Through those challenges we’ve always kept the core group together and it has lasted since then. It helps that a lot of us are in similar life stages now. Whereas in the past, each person has been on their own journey. Even when we lived hours away, we still made it a priority to get together and play whenever we could. The challenges we’ve faced have only taught us lessons and made us better because of them.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So I (Patrick Hutson) am a graphic designer. I went to DAAP at UC and just graduated in May. I’ve found that a lot of the skills and lessons I learned in school translate to music as well. There is a lot of crossover as far as the artwork, merch, branding, photography, etc that go into managing a band. It has been super helpful along the way.

I think as a band we are most known for the community we bring to a show or an area. We love to meet new bands and friends. We strive to be kind to everyone, because at the end of the day, we’re just playing music. Life could be a lot worse.

What matters most to you?
Love. This world can be really cruel and if there’s a chance we can make something that someone feels love from or in love with, that’s the ultimate achievement. Life’s too short not to love.
