Life & Work with Parker Louis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Parker Louis.

Parker Louis

Hi Parker, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Paker Louis. I’m an artist + producer from Columbus, Ohio. I started playing guitar at 12, recording songs on a Tascam 4-Track cassette machine my Dad gave me, and never looked back. Since then I’ve spent a few decades learning how to create music in my own voice and navigate being an independent artist. I’ve been fortunate enough to be featured on COLORSxSTUDIOS and support artists like Caamp + Mac Ayers on tour. In 2022 I started working closely with Secretly Canadian, my favorite record label.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
That’s tough to detail when the entire* process is from the ground up. Being an independent artist by definition is a self-sufficient and unconventional path. Maintaining a small business of any kind is knowing how to troubleshoot and move forward. Doesn’t make things easier but perspective can lift anything. Personally, it’s been important for me to just stay focused on creating music. A huge challenge as an independent artist is juggling all the left-brain aspects of the business, from booking + band-leading, scheduling, financing projects, distribution, art direction, content creation, building a team, and thinking about all these elements on a specific timeline… not to mention the entire process of writing and producing projects. Challenge is the game.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a music maker. I write + produce original projects and collaborate with anyone who’s kind + brave enough to share with me. I don’t know that I specialize in anything, but my intention is always to create as honestly + authentically as I can. I’ve done a lot of recording + playing with good friends of mine – those opportunities are my favorite. I try and play a handful of different instruments, so a lot of what I end up creating when I’m home is a blur of what I hear in my head. I try to follow what I find interesting musically and trust that it’ll translate later when things are out in the world.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t want to overlook good nature and hard work, but I’m sure I’ve been in the right place at the right time on a few occasions; the trick is being ready to jump when they call your name…
