Today we’d like to introduce you to Michaela Madison.
Hi Michaela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Briefly…that’s tough! Newsymom has been a journey of trial and error, ups and downs, expectation and complete surprise. We started with a simple goal: connect mothers. We wanted to create a space that moms could find reliable resources, news related to families, and support. Not every mother is born into a strong support system and every mother can benefit from making that support system even stronger. We wanted to create that space.
Over the years, Newsymom has grown each time we’ve encountered a gap that we could fill. We’ve evolved to meet moms where they are both online and in person; we’ve grown to welcome and serve first time mommas to mommas transitioning into grandma. We’ve grown to help anyway we can. Motherhood is diverse and motherhood is complicated. Our organization is full of layers as we work to connect mothers through a common goal: to raise happy, and kind individuals that will one day have a positive impact on the world.
At Newsymom we truly believe that Mothers change the world. If we connect ourselves with resources, information, and support and we work to be should be the best versions of ourselves….we’ll pour great strengths into our children. In a world with so much fighting and so much ugliness at times, Newsymom believes when we focus on our children and what’s best for them, we can all find more common ground than we ever imagined.
Today, Newsymom serves three counties on a local level through local events, news coverage, resources, etc. However, we welcome moms from anywhere as much of the content we share is applicable for every momma out there despite her location. We also now offer an annual scholarship for a mom continuing her education at Kent State University at Tuscarawas, we sponsor programs with agencies like Job & Family Services, we host monthly playdates with Belden Village Mall, and so much more. It honestly blows me away when I reflect on how many mothers we’ve been able to reach over the years and the incredible women that make Newsymom possible. We simply could not do what we do without our team. I’m blessed to know and work with each one of them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Whew…I don’t think ‘motherhood’ ever fits with ‘smooth road’ in any sense. And that’s true with our organization as well. We’ve had our share of ups and downs and great learning experiences already. But, what’s so incredible about Newsymom is that everything that we are about is real. We fall down sometimes…we make mistakes sometimes…that’s just life. Motherhood isn’t about being perfect…it’s about doing your absolute best, learning from your mistakes, and loving your ‘job’ more than anything else. We apply those same foundational elements into every bit of Newsymom.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, my journey began as a journalist within local radio markets. I’ve always loved writing and that passion lead me to journalism. I graduated with a degree in Applied Communications and worked as a news reporter in local radio for about ten years.
After I had my oldest daughter in 2016, life lead me to start Newsymom. I saw a gap and I felt called to utilize my strengths to fill that gap. That’s why Newsymom launched as a content/news-based website.
My growth throughout the last five years is one I am so grateful for. I’ve found a love of Marketing through my experience with Newsymom. Additional education on the side has led me to also work in that field in my role as Director of Community Engagement with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, a marketing consultant with the Small Business Development Center, and a freelance social media marketer.
I’ve also fallen in love with serving the community via boots on the ground. I serve as a board member with Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Ohio, as a member of the Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition, a member of the Kent State University at Tuscarawas alumni board, and others. I am truly blessed and I absolutely love what I get to do every single day.
What matters most to you? Why?
My girls…I’ve had the opportunity to do some really neat things in life and I’ve been blessed to experience a very successful career already. But, there is just nothing that comes even remotely close to the love I’ve discovered in becoming a mother. It unlocks a part of you that you had no clue existed. Sure, it’s hard and it’s a learning experience…but the opportunity to love that deeply…to teach these little humans and to grow with them is unmatched. My goal is to love them with everything I have for as long as I have and to leave them with memories and experiences that make them proud.
