Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Neubeck.
Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have been a hairdresser for 33 years. My job allowed me to spend the most time raising my family. About 7 years ago however I began to feel burned out. My days were mundane and work no longer excited me. I decided it was time to see what other options there were. I didn’t want to dislike walking into work every day of my life. After months of searching, looking at classes and going on interviews I couldn’t find anything that felt right. I decided to stay in my industry of hair but change it up. I opened my own studio salon and gave myself 5 years to see if I still enjoyed my field running my own business. So the journey began. Learning everything about being an owner not just an employee. There were so many classes I took to make sure I did everything correct. Not only was I the owner and employee but in my instance I now was also the receptionist, accountant, graphic designer, social media manager, and head of PR. Luckily it all can pretty easy for me. A short while into the start of my new salon “Melissa At Mia” I set out to learn more. I attended an educational seminar in Atlanta to find an industry I knew nothing about. Trichology. Trichology is the study of hair and scalp diseases. I became quickly fascinated by this idea. Years in the beauty industry and I had never heard about this. I set forth over the next year to become a certified trichologist so that I could help people understand the causes of their hair thinning. I also began volunteering for Wigs For Kids accepting donations and fitting children for wigs. Over the next few years I approached this slowly taking several hair loss classes to learn as much as possible. I became a holistic hairloss practitioner, Bauman hair coach, non surgical hair replacement specialist, and hair loss university coach . My business grew and next came my space. 1 year ago the studio directly across from my salon became available. I approached this idea and took time to lay out a plan. Working with Hair Loss University I had learned so much about wigs but didn’t have the place to house them. In January of 2025 I opened “The Hair Clinic and Wig Room” in association with Melissa At Mia salon so I could have a great new Private space to consult with clients for hair loss, a place to display a variety of hairpieces to educate clients on their options, and a salon to offer hair loss treatments, wig cutting, and still maintain the long trusted hair clients I’ve been working with for years offering cuts and colors.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been very smooth which makes me realize I’m on the right path. My only setback is time and balancing. Being a 1 person show initially I have had to learn to ask for help. It’s impossible to be as successful as you can and do it alone.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a hairstylist and trichologist.
I specialize in hair coloring and cuts for men and women. I also help people understand the causes of hair and scalp issues they are experiencing. This is done through a thorough examination and consultation process.
I offer hair loss clients 3 options.
1. Trichological consultation to understand and treat with the potential to stop haiross and regrow.
2. A new look or improvement in existing hair to maximize your appearance.
3. Hairpieces of multiple designs and styles to accent or cover. All hairpieces can be customized for the individual by sitting down for a consultation to determine what is desired. Human bs synthetic, full cap or topper. Pieces are then custom ordered and cut in my salon to fit perfectly.
How do you define success?
Happy clients!!!
