Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Badia.
Hi Megan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started this journey as a hobby photographer, turned sports photographer for my now husband’s D3 Baseball team. Once he finished college, I set my gear down for a while but knew that I enjoyed photography too much to just let the gear sit in my closet. Shortly after I actually jumped into a styled shoot with a former Delta Gamma sister who was a photographer at the time that I truly idolized! From there it was history, I loved the idea of love and capturing love in picture form. I will say the reason I really started photography at all (as cliche as it may be) was to capture the moment for other people. When my husband was in college, I realized how many parents weren’t able to attend the games. However, if I was there taking pictures play-by-play it was almost as if they could live through me and watch the game. It easily became one of my favorite things, I realized how much a picture meant. Even today, I am so thankful that my father has over 50 photo albums that I get to look back on when I am missing my grandparents or want to see life as it once was. It’s easy to see that a lot of different paths in life lead me down this road!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road? Eh, mostly, however, the year of Covid was when I really told myself I was going to kick this business into full gear. Of course, that held its own obstacles but the delay of weddings and gatherings it’s really helped me excel faster than I would have ever imagined. I am thankful for good people, a great photographer community, and people who work in the wedding industry to help lead me in the right direction!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I think about what sets me apart from someone in this line of work, I think about my genuine heart, the openness to new ideas, and the drive and dedication I put into everything. Growing up a theater kid, you were labeled as “different” and I’m sure some other words come to mind. My father taught theater and I really do have that to thank for who I am today. I really never knew a stranger; I was friends with everyone and those kids that were “different” well I was one of them. I think when I look at my history, I am most proud that I get to do what I do today. I get to meet people from all over the world and tell their love stories through images.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Without risk, there is no reward. I would say in many ways I am a risk-taker, a thrill-seeker an adrenaline junkie. No one gets to the finish line by sitting idle. Creating a business was a huge risk and it still is in these times with inflation, covid, and about a million other things we as humans get to battle on daily. I think when you finally get the courage to take the leap and forget about the fall, life will mold itself exactly as it is supposed to be.
