Life & Work with Marvin Montgomery Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Montgomery Jr.

Hi Marvin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart. Growing up I would sell cookies and lemonade outside of my mom’s shop so that I could buy diary of wimpy kid books and Wii games. Then when I got to high school, I started a clothing line called Klimate. Fr33ze during the fall/winter and Br33ze during the spring/summer. The “33” represents 330 the Akron area code. I still carry that clothing in my store today, but during high school, I would sell clothes and accessories out of my locker. I was supposed to major in marketing, minor in entrepreneurship, and run track at John Carroll University. After about three weeks of virtual learning and not being allowed on campus I decided to leave school and start a business. I wanted to combine the fashion world with haircuts! My friend suggested I called it “kicks n’ cuts” I knew that was the name. The whole process of getting started are on YouTube and Tik Tok. It has been a rough journey, but it’s really paying off. So happy with the decision I made to leave school.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t always been smooth owning a store and running the business. There are a lot of things that happen on the back side to make Kicks n’ Cuts function. The obstacles/challenges have only turned me into a wiser entrepreneur and prepared me for other things that can go wrong!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Essentially, I sell sneakers and clothes, but it’s so much more than that. I’ve created relationships and a network from shoes. I’m very personable and love documenting my life online. I’m known for selling shoes, clothes, and accessories in the community from kicks n’ cuts. I’m proud of how far the business has come in a year and a half. The passive income when I’m not in store and my employees are running the store is one thing that will never get old. Whether I’m out working buying shoes or just hanging with friends. Sales, when I’m not around, are huge!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very talkative, personable, and outgoing. Like I said I was an entrepreneur at heart. I would sell cookies and lemonade outside my mom’s shop to buy the diary of a wimpy kid book series and Wii games!
