Life & Work with Maria Gonzalez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Gonzalez.

Hi Maria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started my career in mortgages in 2011 when I started working at Chase in mortgage modifications. Mortgage modifications were for people who were in danger of losing their home due to not being able to pay. Working on mortgage modifications gave me the opportunity to learn about mortgages and why it was important to have borrowers know the terms of their mortgage before signing. After working at Chase for many years, I graduated College and went on to work at PNC. While at PNC was where I decided to become a Mortgage Loan Officer in 2017. I have been able to help hundreds of families achieve their dream of homeownership; many whom never thought it could be a reality. Being bi-lingual has also been a great benefit that has allowed me to connect with a lot of the Latino Community in Columbus and the surrounding Cities. While working at Liberty Capital, I have maintained my position as one of the top loan officers in the company and have been awarded with a certificate of excellence and Top 20 purchase loan officer in Ohio with United Wholesale Mortgage. Being a Mortgage broker has allowed me to be able to offer many loan options to clients from all backgrounds.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I got into the business the most difficult part was building realtor relationships. Due to 90% of a loan officers clients coming from realtor referrals, it was very important to have these relationships. Realtors with experience usually have a preferred lender, and getting them to give you a chance as a new inexperienced loan officer is very hard, being that when I got into the business, I was also young; in my late 20’s and the average age of a loan officer is mid-forties this was also seen as a negative for realtors. It took a lot of work for me to prove myself as a loan officer and gain the trust of all the Realtors I now have as partners.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
