Today we’d like to introduce you to Likithasree Rajesh
Hi Likithasree, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a fourth grader student. I live in Ohio with my dad Rajesh, mom Prasanna and little brother Jaishriram. I write good stories from my early 1st grade. My dad is an avid reader. It was in my 3rd grade, my parents were asked to come to my school to show my writings. Impressed by my writings, my dad decided to have me write a story and publish that as a book. We worked together for about 8 months and self published a book on Amazon. The title of my book is “When Neighbors Move Out” . Its about a little girl’s experience of seeing the favorite Neighbors moving out detailing the week before moving out date happenings like packing stuffs, playing, remembering the things, dropping off at the airport etc.,
This story is filled with colorful illustrations and is perfect for little readers aged 4 to 8.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Right off the bat, it was a great start. My dad worked with a publishing service company to publish a book for us. It’s that we have to give them our manuscript and they will do the work for us starting from illustration, editing, proof reading, book cover design, buying ISBN, to upload it on the Amazon. It was a smooth ride in the beginning and then it was a roller coaster ride. The publishing service company initially worked on the illustrations, they sent the illustrations to us, we had to review and approve it to use it. This was going on for about 8 months. Then, all of a sudden they stopped replying back to our emails asking for updates. They didnt pick up our call. My dad tried everything he could do. He tried to contact them via linked in, facebook, but in vain. It turned out we fell pray for the scammers. We almost thought we will never publish a book. Then my dad’s friend Karthik, told my dad that, dont rely on them anymore and asked my dad to learn the steps to self publish a book on amazon and do it on our own. That strikes my dad to learn each and every step in self publishing a book. It took over 2 months for my dad to learn every steps starting from the size and trim of the book , design the cover of the book, editing, proof reading, organizing, format of the book like kindle edition, epub, buying the ISBN etc, to upload the book on different platforms like amazon, ingramspark and barnes and nobles. There were lot of softwares involved it. It was hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end. Today we published a book on Amazon.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fourth grader student. I specialize in writings. I am known for my writings. Apart from that, I am an intermediate gymnast, Taekwondo black belt candidate, swimming enthusiast. I am proud of being an young author publishing a book in a fourth grade. Like my dad, I am an avid reader too. Well I think, reading and writing are the ones that sets me apart from others. My dad always motivates me to write a book. The lines that inspires us are
1. Write the book that you wanted to read.
2. No one would ever be able to write a story of yours, better than you can.
How do you think about luck?
Luck has certainly played a role in my journey, whether its my teachers who shaped me for writing a book or my dad who always motivated me to write a story. However I have found that luck favors those who are prepared. While luck may have introduced the right people to support, it was my creativity, dedication and effort that made it happen.
