Life & Work with Libby Goetz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Libby Goetz.

Hi Libby, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When my husband and I started talking about having kids, it made sense with his work schedule for me to stay home, but at the same time, I wanted to find a way to have an income eventually while staying at home. I then decided I would teach myself to sew because I thought it was versatile and something I would enjoy. A few days after my first sewing machine was delivered, I found out I was pregnant! A lot of my friends were pregnant as well, so I learned to sew baby items and learned other things that they needed as they got older. Then when Covid happened, I learned to make masks and sold those. I enjoyed talking to everyone and decided it would be fun to sell items I liked making! (I did not enjoy making masks😂 but happy I could help people out) And I was right! I really enjoyed it, and my mother-in-law brought me a Cricut to compliment my sewing, which lead to so many new items I could create as well! My cousin one summer asked me to join her in a Farmers Market on that weekends. I really enjoyed doing them and never slowed down since!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Honestly, it has been a smooth road. Of course, there were markets that I did not do so well and TONS of things I learned to make and didn’t sell, but I never had expectations for myself, and if something didn’t work, I wouldn’t stress about it and move on to the next thing I wanted to try out. This year has been exciting because I have a great idea what sells and can really focus on that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have tried to think of things to create that are at a good price point and simple to make but love to make them in tons of different prints so everyone can find a print that suits their personality. I mostly make kid items like bows, toddler aprons, toddler ponchos, pencil pouches, stud earrings that are sparkly and in fun shapes, dinos, donuts, unicorns, and tons of other different shapes. But I also make a few smaller items for adults like earrings, bookmarks, credit card holders!

I am mostly known for my toddler ponchos, toddler aprons, and bows! My ponchos are very practical and will save every parent tons of time in the wintertime! They take 3 seconds to throw over your toddler head!

I also make baseball bows which the bows are actually made from real baseballs that my husband cuts up that are very popular!

My items sets me apart from others. I don’t see a lot of others selling my items, and my bows and a lot of items are not the usually material people think. People are always asking what they are made of and want to touch them.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define my success as a balance of everything! How happy I am while do this, how much I sell, and how far I have come since starting and finding ways to improve! I think I am doing pretty good with all those things.
