Life & Work with Ken Hughley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Hughley.

Hi Ken, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Being a lifelong athlete competing in little league sports, high school athletics, having a passion for working out and fitness for the past 40 years, and to this day being involved in pro-wrestling, I’ve been inspired by the teamwork throughout this interest. With that being said, I also started to notice the rise in racial tension and adversity displayed in the media. But this type of behavior wasn’t a part of anything I was involved with. It seems to appear the media was making tensions more than what they were.

So, I thought how can I spread a good message in the activities I’m involved with. T-Shirts could be a way. I’m constantly in the gym. At my pro-wrestling matches, I’m in front and around anywhere from 100 ppl to sometimes 800-1000 ppl. I started searching for an inspiring picture. An image that has a massage. I found one, made some adjustments to somewhat fit my desired meaning of unity. I came up with the name of InspiRacial Strength.

I’ve recently got into acting and stuntman work for movies, film, and photoshoots. God willing, I’ll have more mainstream success in these new ventures. With this type of platform, I’ll be able to spread my message of Racial Unity among ppl to a greater level.

InspiRacial Strength. Inspired by the Racial Strength/Unity of ppl. Seeing ppls character and not skin color.

I started wearing that 1st design around and got great feedback. I’ve been fortunate enough to have Fox 8 news do 2 stories on my shirts and every time I wear one of my shirts, I get nicest compliments on my shirts.

I now have roughly 9 designs with more on the drawing board now!

I personally feel there are a lot of great ppl out there with good intentions but really don’t know how to express their feelings.

These shirts can be the catalyst, the channel, the way for ppl to open up lines of communication of expressing we all want equality, peace, and unity for all.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s hasn’t been smooth road, but it’s been a learning journey. I’ve come to realize that if you want something done, you’ve got to do it yourself. I’ve had some assistance my printing company The Max Screen Printing. They offer their input, ideas on shirt format and print all of my shirts. Besides those guys, I’ve been doing just abt everything else by myself, including legal papers, website, and a few other things.

My favorite show is Shark Tank. I love listen to ppls journeys, struggles, and ultimately their success. It inspires myself to keep pushing. Besides having a great idea in spreading a great message on a shirt, I’m also helping to unite the races.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work for a beverage company. I’ve been gainfully employed with this company for the past 24 years. My current position is fountain drink machines installation. I’ve also done prep work, cooler, vending machine repair, and small refrigeration compressor repair as well.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
As I get older and ppl and time has passed, I now cherish the family gatherings growing up with Mom, Dad, Grandparents, brother, sister, and cousins. Time spent with family. Nothing like it!
