Life & Work with Justo Delgado IV of Cleveland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justo Delgado IV.

Hi Justo, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have drawn and have been watching anime since I was young and that really inspired me to love anime and draw that style. And have always been inspired by any art mediums.

During middle school I was told I wasn’t going to be able to get a job or be successful because art wasn’t “well paying” or I wasn’t going to be successful. And I gave up on my dream for a long time. Tried sports and loved soccer, went to college and figured that nothing really fitted me until I started working as a security guard and during my shifts I would draw. I absolutely was thrilled to draw anytime I had the chance too. And I fell right back into anime. After drawing and getting a portfolio I talked with an artist and eventually got my apprenticeship after saving money up while being at home with my parents. And finally the opportunity came to me and I was able to start as an apprentice and learn to be a tattoo artist!

After about a year and a couple months I “graduated” and became an artist ready to take my own clients and this was when I started figuring out my style. Though I was an artist I hadn’t figured out the certain style I wanted to specialize in. I had a lot of resources to venture out too but as always it came straight to anime. The boldness and how vibrant the colors can be in shows and how exaggerated they can be in manga, it inspires me because it’s always a new story, it’s always new characters that have their adversities. And I can relate to a lot of the characters which really make it such a fun experience while tattooing.

I’ll watch anime with clients talk about a lot. And even if they don’t watch anime or want anime tattooed I still do my best as their artist to give them the tattoos they ask for! I love my anime pieces but nothing is better than making sure all of my clients are happy and satisfied with their tattoo. I take pride in knowing my clients walk out feeling good, making sure they feel safe during the tattoo and doing my job and giving 110% each time and every tattoo.

I’ve switched to a few shops throughout my time but I’ve finally found my home at foundsoul tattoo in north Olmsted OH. All of the artists there are super talented and I can say all of them make me feel welcome and are like family. We all get along and they have such amazing work. We all give our all.

Lastly I’ve had many inspirations but a few of mine are beerye_tattoos, rhur_tattoos and Thomasabhrams I’ve always looked up to those artists since starting in the industry and have taught me a lot watching their work and seeing their work!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had a good family that helped me stay home while I was doing my apprenticeship. I didn’t make a lot of money during so my parents really helped out during that time and supported me,

Constantly watching videos, and trying to learn on my own was a passion I had and it was hard since i did alot of learning on my own. Outsourcing to YouTube, TikTok, and many tattoo artists, watching ink master and applying techniques from there and meeting new artists around at conventions have taught me so much.

Other than that it’s been just people saying art can’t be a job. And I knew at that point I would have to work 100x harder to show them I could be successful. And I’m still not where I want to be but I will get there

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a tattoo artist from Ohio my name is justo but people call me “doju” I’m very well known for my bold style and vibrant large anime/pop culture tattoos. I’m proud of many accomplishments but my favorite one so far is getting 1st at cyan tattoo invitational this year (2025) for best anime. What sets me apart from different people I’d say is my charisma, and my will to just continue learning no matter how good/bad I think about myself or what I do.

I like to have a good time, show my true self and make new relationships with my clients that’s professional, and make sure they know I’m going to do my best to give them my all.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in a household of 6 my parents, brother and two sisters we all were very close growing up and still are. We all used to wrestle, play games, and always do stuff together growing up. I was always a gamer/nerd so I was watching dragon ball on vhs, playing smash bros, Wii sports, Mario party, and drawing in flipnote. I used to be super quiet but then became very outgoing growing up. And I also did a lot of sports/acitivity growing up because my dad always loved sports and even himself did bodybuilding which is what got me into lifting!
