Hi Jeremiah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
McAlpine Meadery is an Ohio winery and music venue located in Beach City, Ohio.
Our passion is brewing high-quality, European-style, artisan honey wine, also known as mead.
McAlpine Meadery opened in 2014, at that time we were the approximately the 36th Meadery to open in the United States.
We started from humble beginnings to supplying over 100 retail locations in Ohio and shipping by mail to 36 states.
Since that time, we have positioned ourselves as a very unique spot to visit, play music and try a very exotic alcohol.
I Have had the pleasure to meet and see many young budding musicians turn into very talented musicians.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy road at all; it is always a complicated balancing act. As we all know, small businesses were deeply impacted by the pandemic across the globe. In the beginning, we were afraid of the unthinkable happening, as many others were also. However, with a supportive community and quick thinking, we stayed afloat and were fortunate enough to come out of the pandemic stronger than ever, not only as a business but as a team also.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is to take honey and bend it to my will to make the world’s oldest fermented beverage. With a background in science, bacteriology, and Mycology, the act of fermentation is a wonder to see. I’m most proud of the fact that I have created a product that so many people enjoy as much as I enjoy creating; I am also so proud that I have made a safe place for a very diverse crowd of people to gather and enjoy entertainment. Full disclosure, I rarely gather with the masses these days.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My Father, Jerome Geisinger, and my brother, Marc Geisinger deserve massive amounts of credit for many things, the most important thing is they believed in my dream. They are both an integral part of the operations at the Meadery. Last but not least Melly West (I call her Mell Bell) the Meadery assistant. She also does many things to feed the machine.
