Life & Work with Jenny Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Young.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Launched in 2018, SHE Did It Offers a range of video services to small businesses and nonprofit organizations, unfortunately, I do not do weddings. Sorry, ladies. For nearly 11 years, SHE has created videos for local organizations in Summit, Wayne and Medina Counties. Collaborations include Recycle Medina County, Summit County Community Partnership, Catholic Foundation, NEOPAT, Leadership Medina County, Step2, Wadsworth Chamber of Commerce, Wadsworth Public Library, The Village of St. Edward, SHE Builds / Rebuild Together, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception School in Wooster, and Associated Underwriters Insurance (AUI).

My video career started with a local publication out of Brunswick, whose sole mission was to only market and support for small businesses, and I did that job for nearly 8 years. I traveled around NEO producing, writing, filming and editing videos for many industries. This is the gig where my love and respect for local business owners, brick and mortar shops, local makers, artists, etc. came from. When I launched SHE, it gave me the opportunity to expand my reach and begin showing up in my community, so I began volunteering, networking and joining organizations in Medina County:

The goal of SHE Did It Videography is to help lift the community and bring awareness to small business/organizations and non-profits through video. A large part of giving back is providing excellent service at a cost that maintains my promise that small business/non-profit video content is affordable and obtainable.

Lifting up the community, by providing and donating video, is at the foundation of how SHE operates. Therefore, many of the video projects produced by SHE Did It Videography are at a price point that is considerably less than what you find with other videographers and production companies. Maximizing profit is not my priority. Offering video content that promotes community growth, education, awareness and togetherness, is my number one priority.

Finally, SHE is the winner of multiple local, regional and national awards, including six Clapper Awards from WCTVin Wadsworth, a nomination for a 2018 & 2021 Wadsworth Rosie Award for Entrepreneur of the Year, a 2020 Hometown Media Award from Alliance for Community Media, 2020 recognition in the PSA Category as part of the Philo Festival of Media Arts and a 2021 People Telly Award for AUI’s The Dread Pirate Health Insurance, SHE ‘s mission is to continuing reaching small business, promoting and support small business and maintaining my small business for years to come.

Who Did it? SHE did.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hardest part is convincing businesses owners, especially those with a marketing budget, to invest in a videographer/video editor. In an age where people can Go Live on Facebook, TikTok or any of the other numerous options at our fingers, it can take months for an owner or organization to circle back around and realize that while they could hit the record button, they just don’t have the time and they need the help.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a firm believer in collaborations! I collaborate with local voice over artists, writers, social media influencers, designers, developers, other videographer and producers. I also have a strong collaborative partnership with a writer and producer Connie Collins, in 2021 we started calling ourselves CC&SHE. In 2019, we were introduced by a local business owner who hired us both for a video job. Connie realized the camera was not her passion and I needed a break from wearing all the hats. When we get a detailed project, documentary (like NEOPAT) or unique gig (working with Nick Chubb) we usually find that our partnership makes the job smoother and it gives local businesses owners a Hollywood-style treatment because our approach is usually testing the visual limits, not just for ourselves, but for the client. It is often scary for a business owner, but for those who get it – we create fun stuff!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Get involved in your community. Show up for them. Work with them. Network and join chambers. The people in your community need to know who you are. You are creating content that is bringing attention to their business, and in turn, hopefully, giving back to the community you live in!
