Life & Work with Jamari Fox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamari Fox.

Jamari, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story started in 2009 after a really bad date lol I have been always a light blogger on different websites but out of pure frustration, I started insidejamarifox.com on WordPress.com. My first entry was a story, but I started to write my frustrations and opinions about celebrities as I kept up with blogging on the site. My stats started growing via word of mouth and in about a year or two, I was slowly amassing a community of like-minded supporters. They shared similar interests and related to my stories of life issues and horrible dating within the black gay community. I wrote anonymously which led to my mystique as I shared my deepest feelings, thoughts, and fantasies.

Consistency was the key to how I got to where I am today. I wrote every single day and shared many private things I was going through publicly within my community. We shared, cried, and healed together as a family while I transformed into a writer. 42 million views later, I came out of the blogging closet when I was featured on TMZ, where I have been featured on the program over 20 times. Due to my exposure to TMZ, I have since expanded my work on Patreon.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been so many! I had to deal with the hustle and bustle of a 9 to 5 and then come home to pour my all into my website. Then there were occasions when I was an unemployed creative trying to make ends meet. I would share my website and accomplishments with people, and they would always ask me, “Why are you working and not a big-time influencer?” I didn’t want to tell them it was due to my anxiety about if I would be accepted as a black gay male. In 2013, my best friend was murdered. There were also times that I wanted to give up because I didn’t think anyone took me seriously. I dealt with crippling depression and anxiety as well.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a blogger and content creator. I specialize in lifestyle, entertainment, the male form, and current events. I am known for my taste in men, highlighting the trends, and my honesty in my work. I am proud of my community, which I call “The Foxhole.” Many of them started with me from the very beginning and have continued to show me tremendous amounts of love. What sets me apart is I’m not afraid to show my vulnerabilities to my audience. I was very closeted due to my insecurities about being gay. It helped that I was able to share everything I was dealing with people who would understand.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love meeting new people, adventure, traveling, content creation, good-looking men, life, and growth. I can’t speak highly enough about therapy, especially for the gay black community.

My dislikes are “the jackals and hyenas” (that is Foxhole language), people who don’t communicate, ghosting, ignorance, racism, homophobia, and uncouth work environments.
