Life & Work with Donny Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donny Brooks .

Donny Brooks

Hi Donny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
What inspired me to create The Akron Baseball Project Inc. was that I wanted to give children a different outlet, different resources for Baseball, also to keep the kids out the streets that was really big and focus on education as well as playing the game. A few goals I have when it comes to creating the Akron Baseball Project Inc. is that the Youth enjoy it. They also walk away learning something educational from it, not mathematics science it also for them to keep their grades up because Baseball is an educational sport organization. The Akron Baseball Project because Baseball is missing in Akron, and it’s a project that needs to be worked on every day, and that’s what I’m creating. I feel it’s important to do you needs to know that it’s ok; too try something new and not be made fun of because everybody else is not doing it. My name is Donny Ali Brooks I am 32 years old I’m born and raised in Akron Ohio. The foundational purpose is making sure that you create your game. That’s my slogan for The Akron Baseball Project Inc., meaning that you create your destiny. You create what you wanna make your life, and I stand on that plan to make The Akron Baseball Project long-term, not just Akron. I want to take this to Cleveland. I want to take this to Canton all of Ohio and take over Ohio. How you can contact me by email homerunbrooks32@gmail.com it felt real good to be on Channel 5 for my first Akron Baseball Project Inc. for my nonprofit organization and also in October for being on Fox8 Also on PBS Western Reserve. I played two years for the University of Akron and 2 1/2 years for the Flying Squirrels minor-league team. This is always a passion of mine since I was 13 years old. I told myself once I got done playing a game of baseball as a player, I wanted to start my own Baseball organization and help kids and just improve their skills and life education and keep them out of the streets.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth ride. Some of the struggles along the way have been getting the community of Akron to understand that there’s another outlet for our children in sports and education than just the sports that our community is used to.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a schoolteacher this school I teach fifth and sixth grade high school 9th through 12th grade I have been teaching for the past few years, it’s rewarding. It gives me a chance to help the youth.
