Life & Work with Danielle Deborde of Beavercreek, Ohio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Deborde

Hi Danielle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Danielle DeBorde Photography was created by happenstance. I didn’t necessarily set out to become a photographer. In 2013, I had a 21 month old son and a newborn baby daughter. I left my bank management job to spend the first year of my daughter’s life at home with my two children. Two months into my leave, I had a family friend ask if I would take family photos for her. She offered to pay me. I took them, and she loved them. The wheels started to turn, and I began to put together pieces of what would become Danielle DeBorde Photography. What began as a one-year banking sabbatical has turned into an 11 year career change. I have photographed many things over the years – new life, end of life, weddings, families, products, and events. Clients have become friends, friends have become clients. My circle has widened and I am so blessed to have these people in my life. I know it’s cliche – but I truly believe I have the best clients. Last year, I decided to create a separate branch of DDP for my business work. f o c u s Images and Branding was created and has photographed doctors, real estate professionals, entrepreneurs, directors, and many events since it’s inception. This year, f o c u s Studios is opening in Beavercreek and will offer not only a home to DDP and f o c u s Images and Branding, but a place for other local creatives to bring their clients. I look forward to serving the community in these new and exciting ways. I am forever grateful to those who have trusted me and continue to hire me to capture their memories. Truly blessed.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the biggest obstacles and challenges I have faced revolve around work/life balance. Sometimes, the wheels in my head turn much faster than my hands can move (or my brain can focus!) I feel like I get lots of ideas, but don’t always follow through with them when life pulls in other directions. Working for myself is such a blessing – I get to make my own schedule and decide when/how often I work. But, on the flip side -many times that also means I am using evening and weekend time to “catch up” on some of the back end necessities of running a business. That also means that I feel like I’m never truly off the clock – there is always something I can or should be doing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In my work, I strive to showcase the beauty of each subject I photograph. Everyone has a story. So many times, I hear (especially from parents) things like – “you really captured their personality!” or “wow, I didn’t think my child was cooperating, but I love the photos you took!” My goal of each session is to provide a wide variety of images for my client – from posed to candid, from serious to silly. I love hearing the reactions of my clients when they see their gallery for the first time.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Shoot, shoot, shoot! Practice taking pictures as often as you can. Get connected with other photographers who share similar visions. Never stop learning, never stop growing. Intentionally get outside of your comfort zone. And even on the days when you feel like giving up (because they will happen) – don’t. Your work matters, and what you are doing is beautiful.
