Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Wilkerson
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story all began when I was a youth living within the city of Cleveland in the Glanville District. I came across photography in about 3rd grade due to my art teacher hosting a photography club after school but that only last for two years and then I kind of forgot about photography until I was in college. During my time in college, I started to feel stagnant and needed a spark to become energized with life again. I think bought my first camera which was a Nikon Coolpix! as you could imagine, I took this camera with me everywhere and was shooting everything and everybody who wanted to be captured. It was a great experience and helped me become the business man I am today. I have started my journey doing photography for senior in college then moved to Connecticut and was a photo director for a boys and girls camp. After that I picked up a job in New York for a small family business providing services throughout the 5 bureaus that makes up New York City. After Covid, I was forced to return home to Cleveland and began my journey in my hometown. I have now grown through 3 studios and now located in Maple Heights with a new studio and prolific real estate photographer.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth because the journey of networking has been a hardship. All my life I have been an outing person but I ran into the struggles of turning good networks into business. I have ran into people that have lied about booking and promise to pay at a later time but that is all in the faults of learning how to run a business.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional photographer who specializes in Real Estate, Portrait, and event photography. I am also a videography who covers events, real estate, and weddings. I am most proud of my son following in my footsteps and wanting to become a photographer like his dad. What sets me apart from other photographers is that I treat everyone like family, and if you can feel like we are relatives then you will all come back for another good time with theicyshooter.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I have learned that business is business and no matter how you look at business there should be no personal feelings when making decisions to better the company. I am all about binging people along for the journey and helping the next person but in the mist of that, I know that nobody owes me anything.
