Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Bobincheck .
Hi Brooke, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Cleveland in 2010 after graduating high school from Cheney High School in Cheney, Washington. My extended family was here so I decided to further my education at Cleveland State University rather than going back to California. I started to transition socially in 2013 when I was in the midst of my undergrad career in college. Medically, I started in 2014. After job after job, I took a chance and managed to first start my travel vlog series back in May after I was finally inspired to take a chance and start by various YouTube travelers, from Trek Trendy to the Luxury Travel Expert to name just two that have greatly inspired me. I have a passion for traveling, and I want to share that passion with others; I figured ‘If cis men can do it, and a couple cis women, why can’t I? In May of 2022, after I bought my first GoPro video camera and set up my channel, everything took off quickly. I’m still learning the tricks of the trade, so to speak, but I have various social media accounts set up and tailored to marketing Brooke In The Air, including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. I also, as of January of this year, set up my own website through Squarespace, and I am set to launch my email-based newsletter in a couple months. According to estimates, my business should be entirely self-sufficient in about 6-8 months. In addition to travel vlogs, I also provide historical aviation blogs (and vlogs) and aviation industry reviews, such as reviewing the differences in fare classes in air travel and evaluating which classes and airlines to book with award miles and credit card points. I hope to eventually have merchandise for sale as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Learning to navigate Google Adsense is a challenge all its own; getting my viewership numbers and subscriber count up on YouTube is an art, truly, in other words, mastering the algorithm. People really don’t understand how much it takes to get noticed on YouTube. We’re not even talking about the challenges of being a transgender female travel vlogger yet. That comes with its own challenges, really. Some airlines, if they know who/what you are, they will refuse to serve you or issue you a ticket, or otherwise make your overall experience rather miserable as a traveler. Transitioning itself in life was immeasurably difficult and has only gotten harder as time goes by and society doesn’t change. Nevertheless, we persevere.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work my day job from 7-3 as a security site supervisor, but I’m trying to launch my own business as a professional travel vlogger. I’ve currently published my science fiction novel (volume I of a series) through Fulton Books and possess two black belts in various martial arts. I also hold a master’s degree in history and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in sociology. I came out as trans in 2013 and started transitioning in 2014. It’s been an excruciating road to travel but not one I’d ever change. My primary focus right now is using my current day job income as startup capital to A. Launch my travel vlog to profitability status. B. Publish and market volume II of my book series.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was born into a military family and partially grew up outside San Francisco, California at Travis Air Force Base. I was relatively calm, even-mannered, cool-tempered, with a sense of curiosity and adventurism that often ended up with finding myself in a great many books. By the age of 5, I knew I was trans but didn’t know what transgender was or that it existed, but I ended up driving back into books by age 7 in order to escape reality. My favorite genres were absolutely science fiction, historical fiction, and adventure, not necessarily fantasy though.
