Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Fox.
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had an interest in photography. I was the girl who filled up multiple disposable cameras at school functions from elementary school through high school. I’ve always feared that I would forget memories unless I photographed them to look back on.
Fresh out of high school (2008) is when I started getting told that I should be a photographer because I would take pretty photos of landscapes. A few years later, I took my sister’s senior photos and that’s when my desire to turn my passion into a career sparked.
I worked as a licensed pharmacy tech for 11 years until it became hard to juggle my day job AND my photography clients. I was married, and my husband made enough money to support us, so I took a leap of faith, quit my pharmacy job, and started pursuing my photography career full-time!
Since that decision, my business has grown tremendously, and just this year, I was voted Best Photographer in my local newspaper’s Readers’ Choice Awards!
Also, this year, I got divorced, bought a house, and became a single mom. I’m blessed that my photography business started gaining steam when it did because now it allows me to make my own schedule and provides additional income for myself and my daughter in this new chapter of our lives.
I’ve worked hard to get where I am, and I enjoy my work so much! I’m still nowhere where I want to be, but I’m definitely on the right track to getting there!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Self-doubt is sooooo loud! I am my own worst critic! Sometimes I look as a session I’ve done, and I don’t think my work is good enough. But the client is over the moon happy with the end result!
But at the end of the day, I’m glad I have that self-doubt because it only pushes me to want to keep growing and improving my craft!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I shoot everything and anything. I make my living photographing people, but my biggest passion is motorsports! (Specifically, dirt track racing). I’ve always been a racing fan, so getting to combine my love of racing with my love of photography is always special.
