Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with No Era Design

No Era Design shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi No Era Design, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Stillness. I lose track of time when I slow down enough to really sit with something, whether it is joy, frustration, or curiosity. It happens in endurance practices like Yin yoga, on long meditative bike rides, or when I am creating performance art videos, anything that pulls me into a trance where time fades and my mind drifts freely.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Carly Sioux and I run House of No Era, a lifestyle brand focused on vintage interiors and home furnishings. I design spaces that are thoughtful and distinctive, and I buy, sell, and collect vintage and contemporary furniture, art, and decor. What sets No Era apart is how I share and present the work. I create abstract and surreal editorial content around my products and design projects, blurring the line between art and design and giving each piece its own story.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
The world does not define you, me, or anyone. In fact, I’ve often broken through the barriers and limitations it tried to impose on me, from drumming to becoming a designer. To answer your question, I’ve been myself for as long as I can remember. That doesn’t mean I haven’t grown, learned, or had moments that shifted my perspective and priorities. But at my core, I’ve always been a version of myself that evolves over time, even if that sometimes means taking a step back along the way..

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
To not care what anyone thinks.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
It’s one of them. We all show different sides of ourselves depending on who we are with and the context. My public persona is opinionated, unapologetic, and a little edgy. It’s me, but it’s just one side of who I am. I am multidimensional and complex, with layers that aren’t always visible.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
Integrity. Those who lack it will never see or appreciate it.
