Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kito Denham of Far Eastside

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kito Denham. Check out our conversation below.

Kito, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I get up at about 7am, take the dog(s) out and feed them. I usually take my pre-workout while fixing my oldest daughter breakfast before I take her to her day program. I’m usually at the gym around 9:15 and then I’m back at the house in the studio. I’ll work until about 2pm and then go pick up my daughter. I’m back to working around 3pm until my wife gets home around 6pm. Some days we do things together but I’m usually down in the studio until bedtime if i’m allowed to be.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kito Denham aka Mayh3m!. I am an audio engineer, DJ, musician, producer and recording artist from Columbus Ohio. I have been making and playing music professionally for over 30 years. I run an independent record label and entertainment business (Superb Entertainment) were I provide music entertainment for venues, schools and private events as well as provide a platform for independent artists to make music and reach a bigger audience.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I think my parents saw who I clearly was before I could see it myself. They always told us that we could be or do anything we wanted to in life as long as we practice and put our minds to it. I’m the youngest of over ten children and I’m honestly the only one who still does anything music related.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I think suffering taught me a lot more than what success could teach me. I’ve been homeless, broke, unemployed, and stuck trying to figure my life out but somehow I was able to remain humble, grounded, and true to myself. I never let it affect me and used the experience as a teaching tool to move forward and never forget what I’ve been through to make it as a successful creative. Music was always there for me and allowed me to free my mind of the bad things and suffering I was really dealing with in life.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’m exactly the way I am in public. I’m not really that social if I don’t know someone. If I do know a person, they know me to be funny, humble and passionate about certain things. I don’t really have a lot of small talk for people that I don’t know. I’m more of a “let my work speak for itself” kinda guy.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I am doing what I was born to do. In all of my life, everything has always came back to music. Whether I was working in the Architecture field, in school, or any other profession in the workforce, I always found a way to make music that kept me on the path I’m on now.
