Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Kevin Jackson II of Columbus, OH

Kevin Jackson II shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Kevin, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I am currently working on my very first EP. Singing has always been my first love, but it took me a very long time to be comfortable in pursuing it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Kevie — a self-empowerment creative, podcast host, singer, model and entrepreneur. I host the empowering podcast, “Kultivation w/ Kevie”, which is soon to be in its’ fourth season. I first launched the podcast in April 2022, during the craziness of COVID, without knowing a single thing about podcasting. The purpose of my podcast is to highlight the stories and experiences of a wide array of guests — from creatives, industry professionals, to everyday people like you and me. Soon, I will be releasing a journal, a sticker line, and more merch to go along with my podcast. I am also working on an EP inspired by my love for 90’s icon Doug Funnie. If you know, you know.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
Sadly, one of my earliest core beliefs about myself was that I’m not worthy. It’s taken a lot of hard, inner work to dismantle that unhealthy foundation, but I’m closer than I’ve ever been to not believing that at all anymore.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
A defining wound of my life has again, been that I’m not worthy or not “enough.” It started early in childhood and has taken years to heal. Some days, I’m still healing from the experiences that led me to believe it.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, it actually is. I don’t know how to be anybody other than myself, which has been challenging at times.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
The magic of being who you were created to be. We were all put here with intention; with a dedicated purpose unique to only us. Being who God created you to be, and operating at the highest level of your gifts, is not only magical… it’s essential.
