Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with John Dante of Warren

We recently had the chance to connect with John Dante and have shared our conversation below.

Hi John, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Going back into the woodshed with my guitar.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am John Dante the lead guitar and songwriter for the oroject John Dante and the Inferno with my father. We have been making music together for over 15 years playing clubs and festivals and recording original music.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I am always looking forward to the future, I try to let go of the person I was in the past. I think the biggest thing Ive given up over the years is the drinking and partying I used to do. I am much more sober now than I used to be I couldn’t even party like that now if I wanted to. It was fun for a time and a big part of the scene I was in but it is something that served its purpose for the time.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Ive been hospitalized twice in the last 3 yeara for mental health reasons and recently officially diagnosed with bi-polar disorder so that is something I have been working dilligantly to heal from. A lot of it has involved slowing down my lifestyle and becoming more stable.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
There are different versions of you in everyones mind and sometimes what people think of me may not be true. I wonder sometimes what people who have interacted with me on a public scale think of me but I try to not let that affect who I really am.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I was born to play guitar and I beleive I have followed my dreams pretty well over the years. I never beleived in doing things just because others told you it was right.
