Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Dr Dennis Boseman of Austintown

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Dr Dennis Boseman. Check out our conversation below.

Dennis, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Thank you for this opportunity I really enjoy these interviews. What I think is most misunderstood about my business is the heart behind Tribal Temple’s community outreach. Many people see tattooing as just body art, but for us it’s a form of healing and connection. We built a nonprofit to serve the community with Tattoo Therapy™, using art as a bridge between trauma, growth, and purpose.

Our Pay It Forward system allows each client’s donation to help the next person in line, whether that means a discounted session or a completely free tattoo. It’s a cycle of generosity, self-expression, and healing that reminds people they are part of something bigger than themselves.

What’s often overlooked is that this isn’t just about tattooing, it’s about the significant impact tattoos can have on one’s mind and body. Every tattoo done through Tribal Temple™ helps someone heal invisible wounds.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Dennis Boseman. I’m 38 years old, a father, artist, entrepreneur, and I’ve earned an honorary PhD in Creative Art Therapies. I founded Tattoo Therapy™ and Tribal Temple™, a nonprofit built around the belief that tattooing is a sacred form of healing and storytelling. My work bridges art, spirituality, and community service, helping people transform trauma into purpose through creativity and connection.

At the heart of everything I do is the idea that art should serve something greater. Whether I’m tattooing, teaching, or building new ways to express art, my goal is to make people feel seen, valued, and empowered.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Good question! Before the world tried to tell me who I had to be, I was already an artist, a musician, a researcher, and a aspiring creative. I’ve always stayed true to who I am, even if it meant not following the norm.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering and loss has taught me more than success ever could. They showed me how to rebuild when everything felt broken and how to keep moving even when standing still seemed easier. Success can make you comfortable, but loss forces growth. Suffering taught me resilience, humility, and purpose. Every setback reminded me that life isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what really matters to me is my biological and chosen family, my children Dennis and Brooklyn, my work and the impact I leave behind. Everything I do connects back to my purpose: creating, providing, and inspiring through art and music. Art has always been more than expression for me; it’s a language, a form of healing, and a way to connect with people on a intimate level. I care deeply about leaving something meaningful that outlives me, something my legacy and community can be proud of.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I really don’t have a longer run answer for this question. I really hope people share the story about how we met and how they were impacted by my work.
