Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Clara Overmier

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Clara Overmier. Check out our conversation below.

Clara, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day begin at the gym around 4:30 in the morning. I recently started back with this healthy habit and it has been lovely!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers and tell them a bit about what you do, your brand or organization and what makes it interesting/special/unique or anything else you’d like them to know about you / your story /your brand and what you are working on / etc.

My name is Clara Overmier. I was born into a big family of eight children—four boys and four girls. My family and I lived in South Carolina for the first five years of my life before moving to Ohio, which I still proudly call home.

I met my husband and best friend, Scott, here in Ohio. This past August, we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. He’s my biggest fan and constant supporter. Together, we have two wonderful boys, ages 11 and 8, who are smart, kind, and truly the center of our world. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

While I love caring for my family and being a homemaker, I also have a deep passion for cake designing. One day in 2018, I woke up with a strong desire to bake and design cakes. I couldn’t shake the idea, so I finally decided to give it a try—and the rest is history! From that first cake I made for a friend, my love for creating beautiful designs and experimenting with fun flavor combinations has only grown stronger.

I’m constantly inspired to learn new techniques and explore the artistry behind cake design. To me, it’s truly a form of edible art. When creating cakes, I focus on elegance and individuality, crafting each design to be unique and personal—something that beautifully reflects my clients’ vision and essence.

I believe over the years my brand has come to represent elegance, beauty, and quality. When you order one of my cakes, you can expect all three. I put a lot of pride and love into every creation, and I think my clients can feel that.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before I was told who I had to be, I was someone searching for my voice. I hadn’t yet realized how powerful and capable I truly was. Through life’s experiences, I was pushed to recognize my own strength and potential. I am smart, talented in many areas, and proud to stand as both a strong woman and a cake artist.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back the most is failure and the unknown. For too long, I allowed the fear of failure and the unknown to keep me from stepping into my full potential. But with time, I’ve learned that growth only happens when we dare to move beyond what feels safe. Every moment of hesitation has taught me something valuable, and even with the risks I didn’t take, I believe I’m exactly where I’m meant to be—stronger, wiser, and ready for what’s next.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My husband, Scott. I deeply admire him for his character and his strength. He has an incredible gift for staying calm, even in the most infuriating or high-pressure moments. No matter what challenges arise—whether at work or within our family—he approaches them with patience, clarity, and composure. His ability to remain level-headed inspires me to pause, breathe, and see things through a steadier lens. It’s a quiet strength that brings peace to everyone around him and reminds me what true character looks like.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I believe I will regret not traveling more with our kids and showing them the incredible beauty and diversity of the world. It’s one thing to tell them that we live in a beautiful place, but it’s another to let them experience it firsthand—to walk through new cities, taste different foods, and meet people from other cultures. Those moments shape perspective and build compassion in ways that words alone cannot. We do our best to expose them to new experiences, but if I could do more, I would travel overseas with them often, creating memories that open their hearts and broaden their understanding of the world.
