Karen HILL of Columbus east side on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Karen HILL. Check out our conversation below.

Karen, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Right now, I’m being called to step out of my comfort zone and bring Reset to life in a way that feels bigger than anything I’ve done before. For years I stayed behind the chair, but this season is about stepping forward — teaching, speaking, and guiding women into a reset of body, mind, and spirit. Through my IIN training, I’ve been changing how I fuel myself — being intentional about what I take in, where I go, what I say, and how I respond. It’s stretching me in ways that are sometimes uncomfortable, but I know it’s the beginning of becoming unrecognizable from who I used to be

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

“My name is Karen Hill, and I’m the owner of Synergi Salon, a natural hair care brand and salon in Columbus, Ohio. With over 35 years of experience, I’ve dedicated my career to helping women embrace and love their natural hair through healthy, science-backed care. Synergi is more than just a salon — it’s a movement to simplify textured hair care, educate women about their hair’s unique needs, and empower them with confidence.

Our brand blends professional expertise with wellness principles, offering not only salon services but also a growing line of Synergi products, educational resources, and a book and journal called The Great Hair Restart. These projects are part of my mission to guide women through a complete mindset and hair health transformation.

What makes Synergi special is our focus on healing — not just hair, but also the relationship women have with themselves. I’m passionate about helping women understand their beauty, take pride in their natural textures, and simplify their routines so they can spend less time stressing over their hair and more time living life.

Right now, I’m working on expanding our education platform, launching more digital products, and creating content to inspire women everywhere

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that believes I have to carry everything alone has done its job, but it’s time to let it go. For so long, being strong and independent was my protection — it’s how I survived and built a life. But now I see that same strength keeps me guarded, exhausted, and afraid to lean on others. I don’t want to live like I’m always bracing for the next storm. I’m ready to release that fear, trust God more, and allow myself to be supported. It feels scary, but I know I can’t step fully into this next season while still holding on to the old me.”

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
“Suffering taught me that money can’t buy love and success can’t protect you from loneliness. I’ve lost friends along the way, and that pain showed me how fragile life and relationships can be. It forced me to see what truly matters — not titles, not achievements, but real connection and faith. In those dark seasons, I learned to trust the Lord with all my heart because He was the only constant. Suffering has humbled me, shaped me, and taught me a depth of gratitude and faith that success never could.”

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
“I am committed to helping women love themselves and their natural hair, no matter how long it takes. For generations, so many of us were taught to dislike or hide our texture, and I want to change that narrative. Through my salon, my book, and everything I create, my mission is to educate, empower, and heal. This isn’t just about hair; it’s about confidence, identity, and freedom. I’m willing to invest years into building resources, tools, and conversations that help women see their true beauty and walk boldly in it. This is my life’s work, and I won’t stop until I see real transformation in the lives of the women I serve.”

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
“I pray that when people tell my story, they say they saw Christ in me. That something I said, a conversation we had, or a simple act of kindness reminded them they were loved. I want to be remembered as someone who lived out her faith, who loved deeply, and who made people feel seen and valued. More than accomplishments or success, I hope my life points back to God and the love He gave me to share with others
