Hi Rachael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been in the medical field for over 10 years, currently a Licensed Practical Nurse and Licensed Massage Therapist
Worked in Geriatrics, Rehab, admissions, and pediatrics, wanted to make a bigger difference in “more lives” and the community, not only medically but “more natural.”
Enrolled into school and graduated CCMI in July/Aug 2019
Sept 2019 Registered Business Knot Yourself LLC
Closing out 2019 year, stepping out of nursing, working full time as LMT
March 2020-May 2020 Closed per Gov orders, Covid
April 2021 Hired 1st employee
May 2021 Expanded to 2 rooms
Nov 2021 Expanded to 3 rooms
Aug 2022, Knot Yourself became an S Corp
Sept 2022 Knot Yourself’s 3-Year Anniversary!!
Currently employing, Myself, 1 Physical Therapist, 5 Licensed Massage Therapists, and 1 Certified Therapist
We offer Dry Needling, Medical /Therapeutic Massage, relaxation plus more.
I wanted Knot Yourself to stand out from the norm, unique and successful not only with our clients but staff.
Innovative as well in this industry too…So we created a Service never seen before…The Massage Bar
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely had many obstacles!
Starting this as a single mom here raising a teenager, business was started with $0 captial.
I had a massage table, sheets, lotion, and STONG WORK ETHIC!
During school, I continued to work full-time nursing hours.
After graduation, I continued to work full-time nursing, started part-time job Bella Toccare (1 hour drive time, one way), and started up Knot Yourself.
Within 2 months, I stepped out of nursing; I built up my clientele to full-time at Knot Yourself
Bella Toccare Spa wasn’t doing as well; I would be up there with sometimes, 1 booking all day, but I was required to stay entire shift…which drove me crazy!
Pandemic came March 2020- May 2020… we were required to shut down, and closed doors = no income. No date to reopen.
May 2020 LMT’s got a 2-day heads up we could open…So that what I did…as soon as I could! Missed it and loved it!
Stepped away from Bella Toccare.
Then I was getting too busy I couldn’t physically take everyone on…so I hired!!!
Hiring. Interviewing. Payroll. I. Had. No Clue.
Mistakes were made but survived!
Expanding to more rooms = more capital, supplies, tables… made it thou that.
Aug 2022… I needed surgery on my shoulder, 12-week recovery = no massage = no income directly from my appointments…figured this out.
I’d have to say this was the scariest… knowing I have to be out of work before business reached 3 years.
Now leadership, which it probably my favorite!
