Inspiring Conversations with Michael Freetage of Michael’s Confections

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Freetage. 

Hi Michael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started in 2019 after losing my job to budget cuts. I always had a sweet tooth and a dream of my own bakery; the loss of my job was the motivation I needed to get started. I bought equipment and supplies and started booking events making and selling my Cinnamon Glazed Nuts within a two-hour radius of my home in Dover. While 2020 was a challenging year I never wavered from my persistence and my dedication to high-quality snacks and great customer service. While my brother Chris helped me from the beginning as he was able to 2021 was a big year and I was able to bring him on board full-time. We continue to grow the business and meet new friends every day. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Everything started smoothly with a lot of persistence and hard work when 2020 hit. While navigating all the challenges of 2020 may have been trying at times it was also a good lesson on how to never give up.

Michael’s Confections specializes in Cinnamon Glazed Nuts, Pecan Crack (which tastes like Pecan Pie), and various flavors of Fudge as time allows. I only use the highest quality ingredients for all of my products and would never serve anyone something I wouldn’t eat myself. Customer service is a cornerstone at Michael’s Confections and many customers turned friends that make the journey even more worthwhile. I also sell a few selected local products such as Old-Fashioned Caramels and The Mustard Man Mustard. 

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The whole world was turned upside down. All my events started canceling, I took a deep breath and told myself we got to keep on keeping on. As events opened back up while different it still was the same in many respects and the world showed up to support local businesses like mine.
