Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Wilson.
Hi Marissa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I got the idea for the Capsoul Pack back in 2019. I was living and working in Los Angeles and I spent a lot of time traveling by train, plane, uber, scooter –– basically every mode of public transportation. I had traded in my monthly car note for the pursuit of exploring more, spending more time outside, and a way to be active without even trying.
Most of the time I was either coming or going to work and I found myself on the hunt for a new work bag that was sleek, compact, and multifunctional. I needed to be able to go from the office to happy hour or from an afternoon plane to the office and still feel like I was organized and “put together” so to speak.
I didn’t find a bag I truly loved so I decided to design it myself. What started out as me solving a personal displeasure turned into a really cool design that my friends and peers loved too.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all––LOL.
After I decided I had a viable product I went and sketched up some quick images and hired a technical designer off of Upwork to create my initial Techpack. I took that Techpack and I walked around the fashion district in LA until I found a small family-owned leather shop. The owner agreed to do my first sample and after a couple of months I ended up with a pretty nice prototype but it was way too expensive to produce and would not have been very accessible for consumers from a retail price point of view. I really wanted to create something that had more of an affordable luxury feel.
So, for a good year, I was stalled on the entire concept. Until one day a Facebook friend reached out to me letting me know she had just launched a new product development business and the rest is history. (P.S. you can check her out at https://theproductplace.com/)
I spent the next two years in product development for what you know today as The Capsoul Pack. I launched pre-sales in November of 2021 and that is when the real struggle started. It took 8 months to deliver the pre-orders due to the impact COVID had on the international supply chain.
It’s been an incredible journey so far but we still have so much more work to do in terms of learning who our customer is and delivering products that make travel a lot more simple and soulful for them.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Capsoul is a brand where luxury meets utility. We believe you want to travel more with less so we design and manufacture travel bags that combine the utility of tactical bags with a designer look and feel. We’re best known for The Capsoul Pack a waterproof work bag that fits multiple 17-inch screens and converts into a crossbody or fanny pack.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Absolutely –– I have amazing partners in product development: https://theproductplace.com/
The team at City Goods have provided an incredible opportunity to set up our flagship store and grow the brand here in my hometown. Having a brick-and-mortar experience was definitely on my bucket list but I didn’t think it would be something to happen so soon. The ethos of city goods has made this possible.
And I’d also like to give a huge shoutout to my content production team https://www.instagram.com/rudegraphy/, https://www.instagram.com/therealkahlel/ They are responsible for all the beautiful imagery on our site and socials.
I am still building my team and looking for some awesome marketing talent. I welcome all DMs and inquires if anyone is interested in working together.
