Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Edmunds.
Hi Leslie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started this nutrition private practice in 2012 on a whim; frequently, I had people asking for advice on health and nutrition and thought I could do this on the “side” for a little extra money. Soon after, more and more people learned of my services and experienced success and I was busy!
The practice continued to grow and I had to resign from my 9-5 job to allow for more hours in the private practice.
In 2017, I hired my first dietitian to join me and we’ve continued to grow since. We now have nine registered dietitians (+4 administrative positions) on staff at Clm&Thyme Nutrition.
We’ve expanded to three locations: our flagship farmhouse office in Yellow Springs, Westerville, and Dublin.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is rarely “smooth”, but I’ve been blessed with pretty steady growth over the past ten years.
Some of our biggest struggles have been: pivoting to provide our services via telehealth during the pandemic, managing employee turnover, and the constant hassle of working with health insurance companies to get paid.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Clem&Thyme Nutrition is a nutrition and wellness practice; our flagship office is located on a 100-acre farm just outside of Yellow Springs, Ohio. We’ve also added offices in Westerville and Dublin, as well.
The Clem&Thyme team of nine registered dietitians is trained in functional nutrition; this training is reflected in all of the Clem&Thyme service offerings – from nutritional counseling to meal prep workshops. We provide personalized biometric tests including vitamin and mineral, food sensitivity, hormone, and adrenal analysis, nutrigenomics, digestive, and stool testing, and more! We also cook one-on-one with our clients in our beautiful farmhouse location in Yellow Springs.
We work with almost anyone interested in improving their health, from pediatrics to geriatrics. We are trained in a variety of conditions and use a functional “lens” to get to the root of the issue. Some conditions we regularly treat: digestive complaints (including GERD, IBS, SIBO, Crohn’s, Ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, and diverticulosis), hormones, women’s health, fertility, pregnancy, PCOS, menopause, eating disorders, cardiac and endocrine dysfunction, weight management, sports nutrition, autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, diabetes and pre-diabetes, skin conditions (acne, psoriasis, eczema), picky eating and childhood nutrition, and more.
What sets us apart?
We are trained in functional modalities, so we’re trying to actually fix the problem, versus putting bandaids on your complaints. Instead of telling you to avoid certain foods, we want to actually understand (and fix) why you may be unable to tolerate food. Really understanding your personal health. Our team is extremely knowledgeable yet warm and understanding. We want a balance of foods to improve your health but also don’t want you to feel too restricted and unable to enjoy life.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of the team of dietitians I have working at Clem&Thyme. It’s not easy to let go of control as a business owner. Putting your trust in your employees, knowing they play such a big role in your reputation and how the company is perceived. I couldn’t be more proud of this team. They impress me with their knowledge and I am grateful for the care they provide our clients.
What do I want readers to know about our brand?
A lot of people fear dietitians. They think we are super restrictive and are going to take away all of their yummy food. We aren’t super mean and strict. It’s about finding a balance!
We’re here to support, encourage, and motivate you.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Absolutely!
I wouldn’t be where I am without the unwavering support of my parents and husband. I ask them for advice nearly every day, bouncing ideas off of them and asking for advice on how I should handle customer and employee situations. I’ve even hired my mom to work at Clem&Thyme answering the phones and scheduling clients. My husband and dad are my personal maintenance crew, mowing the lawn and taking care of landscaping, snow and ice removal, and taking care of office repairs. My dad even stepped in and was my construction manager when we added more office space in 2020. Truly a family affair!
Running a business takes a lot of time and my husband has helped balance our home and childcare duties, as well.
He’s allowed me to focus on the business and run the kids to school and helps with cleaning and cooking at home.
We have a modern household with mom and dad both working and taking care of child rendering! Grateful for his understanding and support.
TONS of mentors and cheerleaders throughout the years from my college professors, local business development leaders, and dietitian colleagues. Would not be where I am without them.
