Today we’d like to introduce you to Laurie Applegarth
Hi Laurie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I found interest in a company in South Carolina about 8 years ago who created beautiful mobile bars with pizza ovens on old large trucks. I spoke with the gentleman for a while but never pulled the trigger at that time because my kids were younger and we were so busy. I always talked about “when I get my mobile bar” and years later my daughter Josie said to me, “mom you better get your it before someone else around here does!” I said “you’re right” and from there my husband found the perfect 1953 Chevy 2 ton farm truck in TN. We picked it up and took it to South Carolina to be fabricated into the perfect mobile bar. It took about 8 months until it was ready to be picked up. It turned out perfect! Last year was our first year and it was amazing! We have had so much fun as a family and everyone just loves our truck “Charlie”, it is truly one of a kind! I can’t wait to see what the future brings.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road, but I can’t complain because with hard work it has been worth it. We picked out every little detail to make it perfect, if we ran into a road block we took our time and made sure we were patient and chose exactly what my vision was.
Finding insurance to properly cover us, general and liquor liability took some time, as it is not really common, but our agent was able to help us through this.
When we brought our truck home, mechanically it needed some work. We are fortunate because my husband is a mechanic and fixed it all up.
Like any new business, getting out there and getting opportunity is a lot of work, but it is so worth it when you get to show up and provide an amazing service, that is the fun part!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Vintage Saloon is a 1953 Chevy farm truck mobile bar. We provide bar service at any event, public for non profit organizations and private, weddings, graduation parties, celebrations of life, anniversary, bachelor/bachelorette parties or any other gathering. We work with each client individually to create the perfect event with exactly what they want. We make beautiful delicious signature drinks and mocktails. We have 8 taps so you can choose different beers, ciders and sangria on tap. We have a wine cooler for the wine lovers. We set up custom made wooden high top bars that really just make our set up even more beautiful. Our truck is one of a kind and is decorated with reclaimed wood, and an amazing barn beam as our tap tower. We show up and take care of every little detail so you don’t have to do anything. We are a family owned business and we love what we do. We have met so many amazing people in just the 1st year of business.
How do you define success?
Success to me is doing what you love with the people that you love. To work hard at a family owned business to make it successful, while teaching these values along the way to your children who work with you.
