Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I started in the unique glamping space about 4 years ago, in addition to buying and flipping houses. We built our first property of yurts in Arizona, about 45 min from the Grand Canyon. From there, we have continued to find unique places to build excellent properties. Fast forward to 2 years ago, I realized that Sandusky had very few waterfront lodging opportunities! Take it further, and let’s put the lodging accommodations on the water. That is how SoLSTAY came about. I wanted to bring a unique glamping accommodation to the waterfront! During our first year in business, we had a handful of tiny houseboats and land units, along with a small community space and rooftop hot tub for guests. We still have the tiny houseboats but have added Lux houseboats to the mix with power, AC, a small kitchenette, etc. We have also added a floating sauna and patio space with outdoor ping pong.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Our journey in building SoLSTAY into what it is today has been a testament to our adaptability. We’ve faced challenges, but none that we couldn’t overcome. By listening to our guests’ suggestions and recommendations, we’ve been able to fine-tune the guest experience, ensuring a memorable stay. As a waterfront property, we understand the unpredictability of weather, but we’ve taken every precaution to ensure the safety and comfort of our guests in all circumstances.

SoLSTAY is a unique glamping property located in Sandusky, OH. We specialize in short-term vacation rentals. Our property has 14 houseboats of all varieties and 3 land units. We are located directly on the water, separating us from most Sandusky lodging accommodations. We can host large groups as well, all on the same property. We are thankful for our partnership with Shores & Islands Ohio and the support they are constantly giving us. We are most proud of the experience we have been able to create for our guests. We have built a space where people feel relaxed and welcomed. We want readers to know that all are welcome. Our house units are open year-round, and our houseboats are available April-October. We love meeting new people and hearing about the reasons for making the trip! We also offer kayak and paddle board rentals, tiki boat tours, self-guided birding tours, and fishing charters to our guests and the public.
