Jessica Minesinger, CMOM, CMPE, FACMPE, BBCC

Hi Jessica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am the Founder and CEO of Surgical Compensation & Consulting (SCC). While we are based in Troy, Ohio, SCC engages with Physicians, Physician-Owned Practices, and Hospitals nationwide. After managing a trauma and acute care surgery practice for ten years, I was motivated to utilize my knowledge and expertise to help physicians optimize their value at every stage of their careers. We help physicians understand their compensation options, negotiate effectively, and ensure fair pay. Through the lens of physician advocacy, I also consult with physician-owned practices and healthcare organizations to develop transparent compensation plans that focus on recruiting, retaining, and engaging physicians. With expertise in provider compensation, surgical practice development, physician contracting, compensation strategy and analysis, and recruitment and retention, I have a thorough understanding of the complex business side of medicine. I have been invited to speak at professional medical and surgical associations, as well as organizations for medical students, surgeons, and physicians of all specialties. I am an independent MGMA (Medical Group Management Association mgma.com) Consultant specializing in provider compensation. I serve on the ACS H.O.P.E. Committee on Global Engagement’s Domestic Subcommittee, and I am a BBC-Certified Executive Leadership Coach through the Neuroleadership Institute.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There really was no template from which to start SCC. I have a unique and broad set of professional experiences and certifications, an entrepreneurial spirit, and I am a problem-solver at heart. When we launched SCC in 2020, there were no companies that did exactly what we were trying to do. We built the infrastructure for the business and designed a CRM that meets the needs of SCC. We launched SCC on a national platform and have since navigated changes, services, market needs, and opportunities.

As an out-of-the-box thinker, it was challenging to introduce SCC and its niche services to physicians and physician organizations. From my perspective, building trust, expanding to support our vision, and identifying and cultivating long-term partnerships that align with our mission are foundational. That’s the tough, roll-up-your-sleeves kind of work that sets the stage for long-term growth.

We’ve been impressed with Surgical Compensation & Consulting, Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The services we offer are as follows:

1. Compensation Consulting for Surgeons and Surgical Practices
2. Individual/Small Group Physician Compensation Analysis and Negotiation
3. Physician Recruiting and Retention Strategies
4. Rural Hospital Provider Compensation
5. Identifying and Addressing Physician Burnout & Turnover
6. Healthcare Executive Coaching
7. Ongoing Provider Compensation Consultation, Strategy & Support

For Physicians, Surgical Compensation and Consulting provides compensation analysis, benchmarking, and recommendations for contract updates and negotiations. We use a transparent, data-driven approach to advocate for physicians as they navigate the business of medicine. Whether you’re negotiating a new position or updating your current compensation, SCC guides and coaches physicians, providing additional data and support throughout the process.

For Healthcare Organizations and Physician-Owned Practices, SCC collaborates with Administrative Leaders, Provider Compensation Committees, and Stakeholders to review plans and methodologies, conduct stakeholder meetings, develop recommendations and strategies that prioritize transparency and build trust, and implement updates to provider compensation models that support recruitment, retention, and engagement of physicians and APPs.

I keep a copy of Mary Oliver’s quote, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” by my bathroom sink. It reminds me to focus on my “WHY”. Professionally, this means continuing to learn, share, and advocate for physicians who have a calling to serve others. I hope the ripple effects will have a positive impact on physician well-being, patient access to care, quality of care, and ultimately, better outcomes. Many of us may not see firsthand how supporting physicians can change the trajectory of their patients’ lives, but I wholeheartedly believe it does.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love our quality of life in Troy and the Miami Valley. We are conveniently located near cultural events, international airports, and universities. What makes our community so special and unique is the abundance of warmth and care for others throughout our community.
