Inspiring Conversations with Jennifer Shartle of Diamond & Co. Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Shartle.

Jennifer Shartle

Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! My name is Jen & I am the owner of Diamond & Co. Marketing. I come from a lengthy background of leadership experience & education in both the nonprofit and small business worlds. I dedicated years to the nonprofit world as an Executive Director and eventually moved on to own my own small business. Throughout my career journey, I chose to do the marketing at most all of my past positions on top of being the leader, so you can imagine there wasn’t much time left for sleep! But during those sleepless nights, I was building another dream, which was us, Diamond & Co. Marketing! My passion for marketing and helping businesses get noticed is where my heart was, and now here we are, continuing to grow each day & we are so excited to see what the future holds for our business! We’re a small business too, so we understand all the “noise” that comes with being a small business owner; we understand there are days that you are pulled in a million directions, days that you want to scream, and, of course, the days that are filled with joy & remind you why you got started in the first place. Small business owners and nonprofit leaders have enough on their plates, and social media marketing can be a real stressor, especially if you don’t know where to start! That’s where we come in. We like to create things for the world to see & we want the WORLD to see the businesses that we help.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t necessarily say that it has been a “smooth” journey, but I can confidently say that I have loved it and would do it all over again. There were many struggles and bumps in the road, and there still are. I think the hardest part of running a business is learning to balance work and family. Starting a business from the ground up is hard, and it is filled with mostly long nights and early mornings, seven days a week. There are a lot of missed events, missed time with family, and there will be a lot of friends that you will lose. Not many people understand the dedication that it takes to get a business off the ground and make it successful. Business owners do pay close attention who supports them, who cheers them on, and who takes the time to share or refer them. It matters to us a lot; because being in this role can be a pretty lonely experience, and those small gestures speak volumes. Sometimes you have to “disappear” for months while you focus on your goals, and having a good support system with an understanding family is crucial. It’s important to connect & network with other leaders who are in similar roles; having a “tribe” to bounce ideas off of or get advice from will definitely make the journey smoother!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Diamond & Co. Marketing?
Our business name was inspired by the small town that I live in, Diamond, Ohio. It is truly a hidden gem with the classic small-town vibe. I moved from the big city (Akron) to Diamond and built my brand around the name. We are a marketing company that works with small businesses and nonprofits. In both the big cities and small towns! We specialize in social media marketing and website design, but we do so much more! I think what sets us apart the most is that we offer quality services at an affordable rate, and we make ourselves available to our clients. We understand the struggles of small business owners and nonprofit leaders, and we offer flexible payment options to help accommodate their needs.

I am most proud of the amazing network of clients and community leaders that we have. It is very important to me that our company is there when our clients need us. We strive to provide our clients with as many resources, tips, and ideas that we possibly can. I truly value the relationships that we have with our clients, and the best part is when clients turn into friends.

We are located in Diamond, Ohio, but we have clients in many different states, and we will serve clients anywhere.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
Yes definitely! There are honestly an endless amount of books, blogs, and apps that I have used that have helped at different stages of my life and career. I think one of the best books that offered a lot of insight with finances and growing the business was (Rich Dad, Poor Dad). I believe that a large part of being successful is the never-ending need to continue to learn. There is always something new to learn, and taking the time out to read articles, books, blogs, or taking classes and workshops will help you to gain new skills.
