Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalyssa Janeè
Hi Jalyssa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been passionate about creativity and self-expression, even as a kid. Growing up as the second oldest in a family full of girls, I had plenty of opportunities to practice—often at their expense (sorry, sisters, lol!). My journey officially began at Paul Mitchell Cleveland, where I dedicated myself to mastering the fundamentals and building a strong foundation.
Building my career has been all about perseverance and a dedication to constant growth. One of the biggest shifts for me came when I started focusing not just on perfecting my craft but also on building real, meaningful connections with my clients. I had to remind myself why I chose this path in the first place: to bring joy through beauty. That’s truly the most rewarding part of what I do. My clients inspire me every single day, and they’re the reason I stay so passionate about my work. I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—what stylist can say it has been? But every challenge taught me something valuable. In the beginning, I struggled with mastering my technical skills and building confidence with clients. I wanted everything to be perfect, which often meant being way too hard on myself.
Then there was the challenge of building my clientele. It took a lot of patience and networking to create those relationships. There were definitely moments when I questioned if I had chosen the right career, but that’s all part of growing a business. Every stylist goes through it. Looking back, those struggles pushed me to improve, keep learning, and become the stylist I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Studio Metamorphosis is a salon suite located in Rocky River, OH, which I opened with my long-time friend Ashley in July 2023. We’ve created a space that’s more than just a salon—it’s a fun, welcoming environment where laughter is constant, and clients leave feeling like they’ve made two new best friends.
Ashley is our blonde specialist, known for her incredible foil work (seriously, you’ll be amazed at how many foils she can fit!). As for me, I specialize in balayage and curly cuts/color. My passion is creating a safe, supportive space where clients with curly hair not only receive an amazing cut but also learn how to embrace and care for their curls.
What I’m most proud of is the sense of community we’ve built. None of this would be possible without the support of our amazing clients, friends, and family. They’ve been our biggest cheerleaders, and we’re so grateful. We’re excited to continue growing and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Studio Metamorphosis!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think the ability to connect with your clients is one of the most important skills in this industry. People come to the salon not just to look good but to feel good. The way you make someone feel in your chair can make or break how quickly you grow your clientele. Clients want to feel heard, valued, and comfortable being vulnerable because hairstyling is such a personal and intimate service. Building that trust and connection is everything!
