Today we’d like to introduce you to J. Lee.
Hi J., it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started with a belief in my friends when I was about 19 years old. They became the name Grind Time Central—better known as GTC—a rap group active from 2005 to 2012. Later, I saw it again with 1913, a music collective of artists, DJs, and content creators that ran from 2011 to 2013. I had a deep knowing they were all going to make it, and that belief is what fueled me. And even though both chapters eventually came to an end, I don’t see them as failures. They were necessary. They shaped me. They taught me that failure isn’t the end.
After stepping away from GTC and 1913, I decided to pivot and put my degree’s. I have a Bachelor Degree in Business Marketing and a M.B.A. and used them to work in the corporate world. I landed a position at Honda as a Project Manager—which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The structure, strategy, and leadership experience I gained there gave me a new level of discipline and insight—things I didn’t even realize I needed. That corporate chapter sharpened my business acumen and laid the groundwork for how I lead, manage, and scale Moves Global today.
But eventually, a deeper feeling kicked in. I had the dream job, I was traveling the world—but it didn’t fulfill me. There was a void in my heart. And music was calling me back. So I made another pivot.
Incomes SleekoGotBars. I was back inspired and fulffiled. But his journey was different. While working with him, I transitioned from just being passionate but becoming a real businessman—owning a studio, learning how to run an operation, and understanding the foundation behind the art. And when Candy Barz came into the picture, everything evolved. I wasn’t just running a studio anymore—I became a label.
But it didn’t stop there. She grew into more than just an artist. Through her ambition, we started doing live shows, touring, radio promotion, events, podcasting—you name it. She didn’t wait for direction; she led. She built a team within the team. Today, she runs Candy Painted Promotions, a partner company of Moves Global. Making her the title of Vice President and a shareholder of the company.
Looking back, what started as belief in a few people grew into something much bigger—a vision to build a platform where stories will be told honestly, where creativity will thrive, and where we will take control of our own paths.
Moves Global isn’t just a company. It’s a revolution! A movement to reclaim, restore, and ignite OUR culture.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been moments where I questioned everything—financial struggles, losing team members, and feeling like I was building something only I could see. There were times when I poured everything into people and projects that didn’t pan out, and I had to learn how to keep going without becoming bitter.
There was also the challenge of balancing passion with business—learning how to turn creativity into structure, and structure into something scalable. When you’re starting out, you’re wearing every hat. And sometimes, life outside of business gets heavy too. I’ve had personal heartbreaks, financial hits, and even moments where I felt isolated on the journey.
But every obstacle taught me something. Every setback became part of the blueprint. That’s what makes the wins feel real. They weren’t handed to me—I earned them and im cherishing the small victories.
We’ve been impressed with Moves Global, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder of Moves Global, an entertainment company that provides a platform for artists to create, grow, and build sustainable careers. We specialize in music production, podcasting, film, and short-form content. Everything from studio sessions and music videos to live performance series and digital shows—we produce it in-house. All original content feature on our instagram page @Moves_Media as our official content platform. This platform is the cash flow that creates campaigns for our artist and special projects.
I’m known for creating systems that make things easier for artists. I’ve built a platform that doesn’t just highlight talent—it helps artists stay consistent and stay visible. What sets me apart is my approach. I’ve been on both sides—the creative and the business—and that gives me a unique understanding of what artists actually need.
Moves Global was built from experience, not theory. Every service we offer is something I’ve tested, lived, and learned from firsthand. It’s not just about entertainment—it’s about building something that lasts.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is impact. We are create something that outlives us—something that truly helps people. Whether it’s an artist finding their voice, a creative getting their first real opportunity, or someone watching our content and feeling inspired—I care about that connection.
I’ve learned that success isn’t just numbers or attention—it’s alignment. It’s making sure the work reflects who we are, what we stand for, and how we want to show up for others. We want Moves Global to be a place where people feel seen, valued, and empowered to take ownership of their stories.
At the end of the day, its about finding your purpose and living it.
