Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started the Pälish brand based around my own personal, active lifestyle. I couldn’t find any skincare brands on the market that I felt understood me and my busy, real life. I knew there were other women who felt the same way and needed the types of products I wanted. I didn’t want to change myself. I wanted to feel good in my own skin. So, I started creating products that were simple to use, made with truly natural ingredients (why put more chemical junk into our bodies when we don’t have to), and would help with the overall health of the skin.
The brand started with one product – sugar scrubs (I love how this one product can exfoliate, hydrate and scent the skin in one step). I couldn’t find any scrubs on the market that did what I wanted them to do, so I had started making my own. After a few years, I decided that if I loved my own product so much, others may love it as well. So, I reached out to a local designer known for his exceptional branding skills and once I had the product and the look, Pälish was born.
Since the brand launch, the line of products I offer has grown based upon suggestions and feedback from my friends and customers. I formulated some of my best-selling products with the help of a professional esthetician friend who has helped guide me in creating an incredible line of facial products.
Over the years, my product line has grown, but my mission to help women feel good in their own skin and just as they are has stayed the same. In my social media and marketing, I use quite a few active lifestyle photos using real people and in real places without filters. That’s because Pälish is about way more than just skincare. It’s a way of life. It’s about real life. It’s about giving each day your best shot – even if that means snuggling up on the couch with a good book to rejuvenate.
Every Pälish product is made in small batches, by hand. And Pälish products do not contain fillers (like water) to fake your skin out into thinking it’s better. Every ingredient in every single product is added for a reason and has a purpose. Natural ingredients work. I truly believe your skin will actually become healthier if you give the natural ingredient healing process a chance to work.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I don’t think running any small business is a smooth road. I like to think I’ve had some ups and downs because I like to push my boundaries and limitations. I think the biggest struggle has come because of Covid. I primarily sell via e-commerce, but in order for customers to learn about my product line and for customers to get to know me and what my brand is about, I depend upon face-to-face events. When those were cancelled, my entire focus changed. I had to try to sell products no one could touch and feel.
But, over the last few years, despite this, I have learned a great deal about my business structure and my ability to stay true to myself and my brand. And my customer loyalty has remained strong and word of mouth continues to be my strongest sales tool.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I love that I have created a brand around what I love most. I love being active: CrossFit, biking, kayaking, hiking, yoga, walking my dogs. I love being outside and enjoying everything nature has to offer, but that isn’t all of me. I am a busy working professional and I want to feel good in my own skin. If I feel as though my skin is healthy and looks good, that is just one less thing I need to think about, so I can focus on other goals and people in my life.
Pälish is a line of products that helps keep the skin healthy through the journey that is life. I want to meet women where they are and instead of changing, make them feel great just as they are – flaws and all.
