Inspiring Conversations with Dom Campbell of Emperium Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dom Campbell.

Hi Dom, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia. My mother moved to Columbus, Ohio to give me and my sibling a better chance at life. Soon after, I found myself immersed in the culture of theater and film. I went on to study theater at Columbus’ Fort Hayes Metropolitan Center and Ohio University, and it was there that I picked up my first camera. Soon after, I taught myself the film business, producing short films and music videos. The rest is history… That’s kind of how I got to where I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a film producer in Ohio has its challenges, but I always take it one day at a time; you can’t worry about tomorrow for today has enough troubles of its own. The biggest challenge if any is the lack of resources for funding and distribution. It’s difficult being an independent film company in the Midwest because most resources are in major key cities i.e., Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York City… but we find a way. Or like we say here at Emperium, “We create our own luck.”

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business “Emperium Studios, LLC,” is an American TV/Film production studio founded in Columbus, Ohio. We develop high-quality motion pictures and television on a low budget. Our goal is to produce thought-provoking and candid-style programming that can reach a wide array of audiences. –Which, by the way, we just got our second movie on Tubi TV to be streamed. The release date is 8/6/22 and it’s for our newest film “Temporary Suspicion” a suspense/thriller. This film is completely different from any of the other ones we’ve made at Emperium, and that goes back to our mission of reaching a wide array of audiences.

At Emperium, I’m not only the Founder but the Director, Producer, and screenwriter for most of the projects. I think what sets us apart from others is the quality of our work despite our budget. I take pride in the fact that we really know the business, but we also are constantly learning how to grow and get better. Brand-wise, we are expanding and even starting to offer services to others, from production to film coloring… We have our hands in multiple arenas! You can check out our website at www.emperiumstudios.com to learn more about what’s to come and maybe even check out our merch. It has our Emperium motto. Get used to hearing and seeing “We create our own luck!”… because we do! I think it’s important because it implies that we put in the work to get us to where we are and when you tag that along with faith, it’s a good recipe.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice would be “Just do it!” Seriously, apply yourself to creating the story you want to tell and learn how to collaborate with other creators. If you don’t have those connections, then learn how to use your friends and family. Support goes a long way, and it helps you during this journey!

Also make sure your team is solid and they see the vision. There will be ups and downs but the vision has to remain clear.
