Hi DeVanae, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In college, I lost my D1 track scholarship and sold dinners here and there to get by. I was living life with no clear direction until I tapped into my potential and began to follow my dreams! Fast forward and here I am, living my life in alignment with my passion for culinary arts as the owner and operator of my own catering business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been smooth at all! I give grace to those who are on the entrepreneurial journey because it’s not always glitz and glamour as social media portrays it to be. Money comes and goes, sometimes you spend more money than what you’re bringing in, customer satisfaction may not always be there, long nights and early mornings, trying to build a team etc.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
DeVour Catering specializes in event catering, private dining for two, and meal prep. I’m most proud of the collaborations I’ve done with other outstanding black businesses such as; partnering with Horizons Weightloss and Hormones where I’ve created several different meal plans catered towards their weight loss programs that they offer as well as LoVe on Fourth St, it’s an upscale lounge located in Cincinnati Ohio where I cater weekly Sunday Brunches which have been sold out weekly.
