Inspiring Conversations with Christina Bayley of Total Taekwondo and Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Bayley.

Hi Christina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Martial Arts when I was 6 years old. I am now 48 years old. I open my own Martial Arts facility almost 23 years ago. I have been on the USA Olympic Taekwondo National Team, fought in over 25 countries. I am a current USA National Team coach for AAU and I was inducted to the AAU Hall of Fame on July 5th, 2022. I empower everyone who comes through my doors by teaching Martial Arts to empower them to defend themselves and achieve their specific goals. I love what I did. Martial Arts has been a lifelong passion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Obstacles and Challenges have been many.

First being a women’s business owner in a male-dominated activity/profession.

Next working through surgeries such as 2 hip replacements, 2 shoulder reconstructions, hand surgery, and more.

Covid 19 caused us to shut down for 2.5 months. I had to try to learn Zoom and other ways to keep my business running while being shut down.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Learning how to run a business with no prior business experience and business education.

Working through my injuries by being smarter and not letting my ego get in the way.

Learning zoom and other innovative ways ways to get through the Covid 19 pandemic.

Understanding that I can’t do it all and definitely needing others who are trustworthy and kind to assist me.

Still learning to take time off for myself. Knowing it is essential so that I can keep mind and body going.
