Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Johnson
Hi Chelsea, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My football story began in 4th & 5th grade when I played as one of the only girls, for the community little league team, Linden Eagles of Columbus, Ohio.
Fast forward to 2007, I was invited by the Head Coach of the Columbus Comets Women’s Football Team to tryout, when I returned home from Central State University where I participated in Track & Field (Shot Put & Discus).
After 10 successfully seasons and becoming a 3 time All-American Left Tackle…..I began my coaching career with the Columbus Comets.
Since Covid, the Comets weren’t going to return as a team, so I built and currently operate the newest Women’s Tackle Football Team Columbus Chaos. The Chaos debuted in 2021 and is looking to continue the story and platform of women’s tackle football in Columbus today.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not our smoothest transition, but one that many still wanting to play the sport, wanted to see return. However, women playing tackle football know all too well the commitment and funding needed to excel in our industry and league.
Spreading the word about or sport and it’s support needs, are one of many challenges we look to overcome each season on our journey to one day becoming a household name in Central Ohio sports.

As the proud owner of the Columbus Chaos, it’s my pleasure to share the story of women’s tackle football in Columbus, as it dates back to the 70’s.
What I’d like the city to know, is that Columbus Chaos is comprised of amazing women from all over the city and from all walks of life. We have a safe and proven way to provide football training and skills for women 18 years or older to participate in the sport of tackle football.
What sets us a part, is the league we play in (WFA) Women’s Football Alliance and the exciting product of women’s football provided to our local communities and followers.
How do you think about happiness?
What really drives happiness in football, is seeing the amount of excited youth girls beginning to train and learn to play the game to one day play at the adult level.
Many players come to us saying there was never a place for her to play or got turned down because they are a girl/woman.
Not anymore…….I’m honored to continue this women’s football platform for that very reason and many more.
