Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Tell.
Hi Candace, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well, where do I start? I am an Akron native born and raised. I graduated from Firestone high then went on to get my nursing license as an LPN (licensed practical nurse). I didn’t have good luck with that career. So, after working in the healthcare and customer service field, I decided I wanted to do something I was passionate about. So, in 2015 I started a small cupcake business called Hidden Treasures Cupcakery. I also decided to start my non-profit that year and have my first mother-daughter brunch. The name of the non-profit is Empowering Queen’s mission is to empower, support, and encourage women through life’s journey, with a focus on single mothers. Our signature yearly event is our Pearls for little girl’s mother-daughter brunch where we bring mother and daughters of all ages together to strengthen bonds and create memories. I am in the process of getting 501c3 for this organization so we can grow. In 2020 I decided to do something I was truly passionate about and I started my event planning business called Untouched Details Event Planning we specialize in balloon design and create memories that will last forever. I would say I’m a serial entrepreneur. I also started a styling business with a friend of mine Tiffany Roper at the beginning of 2022. We combined our love for fashion and thrifting and created Thrift Theory and Style. At the beginning of this year, I decided to back away from the cupcake business and focus on my other endeavors. I feel like I have said a lot lol. But my main goal is to assist people in my community as much as possible and bring smiles to people’s faces with my creative talents. I am involved in some community organizations like Akron Urban League Young Professionals I also sit on the board for Limitless Ambition. I received my first award this year at the GO GIRL Award show put on by Randi Mull. For my efforts in the community. I pride myself on encouraging and supporting women in my community, especially entrepreneurs. But I would say my journey is evolving daily I have a long way to go but I also have come along way. I think I left out that I’m a mother to a loving 16yr old daughter the keeps me on my toes lol. If I did leave any details out just ask me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. I would say one of my biggest obstacles to overcome was fear and self-doubt. Once I decided no matter what it looked like or how much I failed I would keep going is when I think things started to shift for me. I would also say not having or knowing about resources to level up my endeavors. But the biggest challenge for me was picking back up my focus and ambition after I loss my brother in 2018 that definitely knocked me off my game for a while. But I got back focused and have been moving forward since the pandemic ended.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Untouched Details Event Planning is a full-service event planning business. We plan birthday parties, baby showers, weddings, private dinners, day of services, and also balloon design. We specialize in the details; we believe those simple little personalized touches is what makes an event memorable. We really love weddings and have had the pleasure of doing day of coordinating services for 3 weddings last year and that was our highlight. Thrift Theory and Style is a thrifttique we host styling parties you can book a private styling or subscribe for a monthly styling. This is all done with previous loved fashion because we believe all fashion deserves a second chance. I am very proud that in only 5 short months we have been able to style about 75 women or more.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
From what I can remember lol I was always a thinker and a dreamer. Very indecisive (still) and not sure of myself. But I’ve always had a big personality and loud mouth lol. I definitely stayed in trouble for talking to much but I loved to talk, laugh, and joke(still). I was really interested in multiple things it always changed but one thing remained and that’s my love for shopping and fashion. I also was always caring for people and wanted to help them if I could.
