Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany McDaniel.
Hi Brittany, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
To make a long story short God gave me a vision about KINDkamp. The vision was so detailed, there was a camp with young girls and classes, and He even gave me the name of the organization. The following day I told my mom and aunt about it and they were thrilled. They immediately pushed me to get to work and start planning for our first gathering, The rest is history I suppose. I just know without my obedience to His call and their push along with a lot of prayers nothing would have come together. I always knew I would end up working with young girls, I thought it would be in the form of coaching a sport, but this has turned out to be much better.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part, everything has been smooth. I couldn’t even make up the amount of doors God has opened, the connections I have made and the resources I have been given to push KINDkamp forward. However, I will say that this has been a huge learning curve for me as I have never run a nonprofit, nor do I know anyone who does. Nonetheless, this whole process has been nothing short of exciting.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about KINDkamp?
KINDkamp is a nonprofit that supports girls from the ages of 10-15. We host a camp that teaches the girls about self-esteem, bullying, menstrual care, and personal hygiene, financial literacy, nutrition, and a few other things. Our mission is to inspire young girls to lead from a place of confidence, self-awareness, independence, and individuality. This year our program will last two days. We provide each girl with breakfast, lunch, and a snack, as well as a care package filled with several amazing products. What sets us apart is the fact that there are not many other organizations in the area for our girls that will help educate them on all of these issues. I am proudest of the positive impact we are making on these girls. Nothing feels better than seeing girls come in shy and leaving laughing, excited, and ready to come back again. I just want people to know that we are so passionate about helping young girls. All of our volunteers and board members are carefully selected with the girl’s best interests in mind.
Any big plans?
We definitely have plans to make KINDkamp a full summer and in-school program. We are also planning for a building to call our own and the finances to continue to grow and provide for our girls.
