Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Jackson.
Hi Allison, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Kindly Delivered started in 2017, the summer after my own wedding. I created my own wedding invitations and fell in love with the process and all the pretty details. I always knew I would be happiest working for myself and when the idea for a wedding stationery business came to me, I got right to work, creating designs and putting my work out there. I’ve come a long way since 2017 and my overly floral designs, to a more refined offering of letterpress, custom wax seals, and detailed monograms. I left my full-time interior design job in May of 2020 to pursue this business full time and I haven’t looked back.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While leaving my full-time job in May of 2020 was the right decision for me, that year was a struggle. Postponed weddings and lots of uncertainty as to when weddings would happen again definitely lead to some questions about whether this business was the right option for me. But, 2021 brought repeat 2020 clients needing new invitations with correct dates as well as a lot of new clients who were excited to finally be getting married after a very long engagement and planning period.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Kindly Delivered is a full-service wedding stationery business that creates timeless, romantic wedding invitations and wedding day paper. Being a full-service stationer means I do everything from beginning to end, from your invitation design to assembly and mailing, to your seating chart and place cards on the wedding day. I offer both custom and semi-custom wedding invitations to serve a variety of budgets and requests. I am known for soft, romantic letterpress with floral or watercolor envelope liners. One thing that sets me apart is my process – I include mood boards for my prospective clients to show the vision I have for their wedding before they even decide to book with me. This gives them an opportunity to see if I am a good fit and also jump-starts the design process because they can see which options and details are most important to them. I also work very closely with wedding planners and have an elaborate sample box I send to them to help their clients make decisions about colors, printing methods, and embellishments. I am able to work with clients and wedding planners all over the United States.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a mentor is key in the wedding industry. There is so much to learn and lots of people willing to teach. I have been in a mastermind for wedding pros as well as had coaches who have helped during various times in my business. I love having the added support and encouragement.
