Hidden Gems: Meet Teri Arthur of Teri Images

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teri Arthur.

Hi Teri, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My creative story began at the age of thirteen when my father, who was an advertising artist, gave me an old Canon 35mm camera and told me to experiment with the settings. As my curiosity about photographic styles grew, I found myself in museums, and literature, studying the works of Annie Leibovitz, Dorothea Lange, and Wilson Bentley, but equally so I was drawn to Dutch painters and their use of light, turning ordinary domestic scenes into brilliant and moving pieces. My art combines all my previous influence with my love for flower gardens, light, macro details and water, an element that I cannot live without. I even live on a small lake which feels as if I’m on vacation every day. It is teeming with wildlife and wildflowers and keeps me quite inspired with its glistening reflective qualities. Wanting to praise God with my art though, has brought my submerged floral photography to the forefront, and has been received on social media, fellow artists and gallery curators alike with resounding curiosity and applause. Each unique piece conjures an emotional experience for the viewer. Familiar flowers surrounded by water and swirling colorful acrylic inks is simultaneously ethereal and grounding which seems to create a sense of wonder and excitement. I’ve had people tell me the images are mesmerizing and intriguing. Galleries are wanting to exhibit them. I feel I’ve come full circle and accomplished what my father suggested decades ago, to experiment and be curious, not only about what a camera can do, but to expand my own vision of creativity and push my own boundaries of photography.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Finding my own artistic voice was the most difficult path. I admired painters, but did not paint. I loved flowers but found myself trying to please social media followers by repeating other artist’s styles. It wasn’t until I took a course by Matt Tommey that I realized God gave me unique ideas and talent that was worthy of exploring. As my courage grew, doors began to open and dreams became possibilities.

Teri Images is my professional photography business that creates unique submerged floral commissions for homes, art galleries and collaborations with musicians on Instagram. It’s a unique niche that combines photography with paints creating ethereal images that get the “Wow” factor curators want for their galleries, homeowners want for their homes, and musical artists want for their social media galleries.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see my submerged florals, that I currently combine with music on Instagram, as becoming a much larger immersive experience for museum and art gallery platforms. Strolling through a gallery filled with both images and carefully chosen music would be the perfect pairing for my work.
