Today we’d like to introduce you to Tami Heiss
Hi Tami, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a proud mom of seven kids—some biological, some adopted—and a grandmother to six amazing grandkids, including one set of twins, with another set in the same family on the way. Family is central to my life and has shaped much of who I am today. For 12 years, I was a stay-at-home mom, homeschooling my children and focusing on their growth and education. After that, I transitioned into part-time office work.
A pivotal moment came in 2019 when, at 53 years old, I decided to go to college for the first time. It was a leap of faith, but I graduated in 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. During my final year of college, I began training to become a certified life coach and earned my certification through the International Coaching Federation. Within six months, I both graduated college and became a certified life coach.
My journey into domestic abuse advocacy began long before my formal training. In 2010, I started reading about domestic abuse and quickly realized how little awareness and support existed at the time. The need was overwhelming, yet resources were scarce. Over the years, my passion for understanding this issue grew, and in 2019, I pursued in-depth training to become an advocate. I was driven by a deep desire to help women who feel trapped, unheard, or uncertain about their situations. I started small—asking my church if I could use a room to host a support group. That first meeting began with just one woman, but it was the start of something much bigger.
Today, when I look back, I am humbled. I could never have imagined being where I am now. In domestic abuse situations, every story is different, and it’s a privilege to walk alongside both women and men as they navigate their journeys.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, with just one woman in that first support group, I felt completely out of my comfort zone. I wasn’t even sure if I was doing it “right,” yet I leaned on my training and knowledge to meet her exactly where she was. Over time, I’ve come to realize that one of the most powerful things I do is simply listen. I often hear, “You are the first person who has ever believed me.” That is both heartbreaking and deeply motivating.
A big part of my work is helping women find their own answers, but the journey hasn’t been easy. At times, I felt like no one was listening or truly understood, and I was fighting alongside these women just to be heard. I’ve also encountered the difficult reality that some people who claim to be “abused” are, in fact, the abuser. Learning to navigate these complexities has been challenging, but each experience has taught me something valuable.
Since beginning this journey, I’ve learned so much—and I know I will continue to learn.
As you know, we’re big fans of Healing Truth Life Coaching. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Healing Truth Life Coaching is dedicated to supporting individuals—especially those navigating toxic or abusive relationships—by providing a safe space for healing, clarity, and empowerment. What sets us apart is our holistic approach: we don’t just offer support, we walk alongside people as they reclaim their voice and make decisions that align with their well-being.
I offer women’s and men’s support groups, 1:1 coaching, texting support, and interactive self-paced courses that provide practical tools for healing and personal growth. I also have both male and female coaches, ensuring that each person gets the right support based on their situation.
Beyond working directly with individuals, I also educate churches, pastors, leaders, friends, and family on how to support someone in an abusive or difficult situation. I am not in competition with pastors or counselors—instead, I serve as a bridge, offering hands-on support between counseling sessions or pastoral care. Many people need ongoing guidance outside of those structured meetings, and that’s where I step in.
What I’m most proud of is that Healing Truth Life Coaching is a place where people feel heard—many for the first time. I believe in meeting people where they are and equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to make their own choices. Whether it’s through coaching, courses, or group support, my goal is to provide a path forward that feels safe, informed, and empowering.
Any big plans?
My plan is to take one day at a time. This is the first year of my business and it’s going better than I could imagine. Right now, I’m already overwhelmed—in the best way—by the incredible growth and forward momentum of Healing Truth Life Coaching. I hope to continue educating people on the complexities of toxic relationships and guiding them toward living in truth.
Looking ahead, I would love to expand my support groups into churches and other organizations, providing safe spaces for healing within communities. I also plan to offer presentations and workshops to equip pastors, leaders, and individuals with the knowledge and tools to support those in difficult situations.
The name Healing Truth comes from John 8:32—”Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” My goal is to help people step into that freedom by uncovering truth, breaking free from harmful cycles, and stepping into a life of clarity and strength.
