Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Hatfield.
Hi Olivia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been photographing subjects since I was in high school. I would use my mom’s camera for art projects for school. I had grown to love photography, but never realized I could pursue a career in it. In college, I became friends with a lot of musical theatre majors and ended up getting paid to take their headshots. I slowly started to realize that I could make money with photography. I ended up graduating with a Bachelor’s in Social Work and worked for child protective services for two years after college. While working full time, I slowly started to build my wedding photography business. I grew to love weddings and love meeting new couples every year. I also grew to love the world of lifestyle photography, such as family and boudoir sessions. Now, it is my full-time career and I consider myself lucky that I get to do something I love as a job.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was very hard balancing a full-time job while also trying to build this up. I was also a new mom trying to balance both jobs which got very stressful. There is also always the comparative game that a lot of us creatives play in our mind. It’s hard not to compare yourself in a market that is very saturated. But I just try to keep my head down and hustle for myself and my family, while ultimately trying to create beautiful work that my clients will love. If I do that then I know I did my job well.
We’ve been impressed with Olivia Hatfield Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Olivia Hatfield Photography specializes in weddings and lifestyle photography. Olivia Hatfield photographs across the United States and Worldwide. However, she calls Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky her home base. Olivia considers herself a hybrid photographer, meaning she shoots film and digital to be able to create beautiful imagery. Olivia has grown a love for weddings over the years because it allows her to capture genuine moments that people will cherish for years to come.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I will photograph anything! I have photographed a Quinceañera, hotels, food, military homecomings and so much more. Although weddings and families are considered my specialty, I love having a diverse clientele because it pays the bills and I honestly just love meeting new people.
